Are Saints funds being used to fund a Turkish Div 2 club? 09:38 - Jun 27 with 1417 viewssaints__fan__73

With the news that both Lis and Lyanco could be off to the 2nd division Turkish club our owners are in the process of buying you have to think if this is a good thing for our club or is PL money being used to improve the net worth of the owner's other assets?

There is no way a Turkish lower league club could afford the wages either player are on and players of their age/experience will not be gaining anything from playing at this low level. However, if both contribute to the club getting promoted to the Turkish PL then the owners will be left with an asset worth far more than their purchase price.

The Lis deal seemed off from the start. Why sign an out of contract 25 year old player when we already have 3 senior keepers and our number 1 keeper is a lot younger than 25. Lis can't exactly be said to be one for the future. It's very likely he'll never even play for us and was signed specifically to play for the owners's other club.

Given we are the poorest PL club should we be spending what little funds we have in this way?

We are following the pattern of Manchester City who look to profit from players who will never play for their first team.

The issue with Lis is he might struggle to get a work permit at present, the idea was always to loan him out so he would qualify.

Goztepe have only just been relegated to the second tier, they are therefore a potentially good buy for SR, they are looking at the longer term not the short term, Lis is a free transfer he is not going to be on a big wage, perhaps the idea is that he does well and lets say we subsidise his wages by £10k a week, that's £500 k if we can then sell him on for more than that its good business.

Your problem is that you never look at the big picture and you always look for the worst in whichever topic is up for discussion.

We are talking peanuts here, goalkeepers in the main don't mature till they are 25 ish, Nick Pope was on loan in League two at 23, was still second choice at Burnley at 27, Sam Johnstone spent most of his time on loan in the lower leagues until joining Villa on loan and he was 25 before he was truly established.

You asked the same question on the SaintsWeb. Expecting a different response perhaps? Are we the poorest club in the EPL? If the owners think that the business model will benefit from transferring assets between clubs surely we will also benefit overall?

Are we looking to profit from his sale or are we just paying the wages of a player always destined to play for one of the owner's other clubs?

The premier league is the richest league in the world and has the best rewards - there’s no way you would buy a PL team to subsidize teams in other European leagues where the rewards are lower. If you look at Baseball out here, the Major league teams have “farm teams” in the minor leagues (single A, double A and triple A). Players who aren’t quite good enough for the big league but have all the attributes are signed and sent to the minors much like we do loaning players to lower divisions. But by controlling the farm teams, they can install up and coming coaches and ensure the players are being coached as they want them to be and get regular meaningful updates on whether they’re going to make it or it’s time to move on and cut them.

My guess is installing a similar system would help us get the most out of academy players that need experience but also to have quality coaching still as well as for the more prospective transfers we make. As Nick points out getting them more exposure in the way and playing to their strengths not just trying to fit into a new system on demand for six months will mean those that don’t cut it off PL playing will have had greater exposure of what they’re good at and hopefully attract a better fee.

It is a valid question, if experienced professionals are loaned out. Lyanco going would be an admission of poor purchasing decisions. Academy players would benefit, players that we can’t shift because their wages are too high, or nobody wants to pay a fee, it would be advantageous to the owner, but not to this club, but if they are not going to get games here, then little cost if at all.

Can we expect the likes of Djenepo to be farmed off to Turkey?

I’m not sure I see how this particularly helps us. We will almost certainly end up paying a higher proportion of the wages of loaned-our players than we would if they were loaned to a club outside the Sport Republic group.

Are players really going to develop their game in the Turkish second division? They’d be better off in the Championship or League One.
