At half time, you couldn't see anything other than an Arsenal win. We know ourselves (countless times) how important that second goal is when you're on top. And so it proved to be - with a gutsy, determined 2nd half from Saints.
Terrific result considering our injuries. Three games unbeaten & five points from nine for a 'struggling' team. Well done Saints. I honestly didn't expect that!

Well done. Great second half.
WE MARCH ON
I'd like to know what Ralph said to them at half time. We closed them down much better & we were the better side & deservedly equalised. Lyanco is a tad Maverick but I'm sure his enthusiasm rubs off on others. JWP is still struggling to find any form this season. But credit to all concerned even Ralph for 5 points from last 3 difficult games.

Fantastic result.
Much-deserved point.
Agreed great result Underlined the fact Stuart should start every game, crazy he doesn’t And why Walcott came on only ralphie knows that was his usual stupid sub

Selles and co were a lot more vocal second half, didn't have a lot to say in the first half. It just shows that these players are capable of pulling off a result with good management and tactics. I still remain convinced that not much of that is coming from Hassenhutl though. Also thought that Djenepo would have been a better choice than Diallo, he looked lost most of the time - and Caleta-Car seems to determined to create a new player title, that of Holding Defender because he did a lot of that, lucky to just receive a yellow card, I thought.

I agree, Walcott looked even more lost than Diallo. I thought the defence were all commendable today, with Bazunu wort MOTM for me, kept us in it 1st half. Elyounoussi did a decent job up and down the wing, cracking through ball for the goal and a fabulous defensive intervention in the second half to stop a certain goal.

Ralph spends all his time barking instructions from the sidelines. You can clearly him egging the players on and encouraging them. It was a great point against the team top of the table and yet fans still find something to be negative about.

Another in the classic series of Saints v Arsenal games at St Mary's. I don't think we've had a more entertaining series of home games against any other team. Three times Arsenal have come to St Mary's as league leaders and they haven't won once. Once they got their lead, Arsenal seemed very nervous and it was just a matter of finding someone in the Saints team who would knock the ball in the net and Stuart Armstrong obliged.
Two moments of brilliance from Elyounoussi - the last ditch tackle and the assist for the goal- capped a fine performance by a much-maligned player. Edozie was superb. Hopefully, we'll see him on the pitch for longer in future.
Our unbeaten run continues and now only one team has won more points from losing positions in the Premier League this season than Southampton. The fact we fight back when we are losing more than almost any other team shows that we are building team spirit. Lyanco and Elyounoussi especially today showed how much it meant to them .

This doesn't make sense, if we lose it will always be the managers fault, yet when we play well and either draw or win, its in spite of the manager and down to the other coaches??

Fans have to realise that we could have a Gerrard, a Moyes, a Bruno Large, an unknown from Scandinavia or some f@cking wannabe who leaves us within a year when a top club comes calling. 5 points from 3 games in the PL, a team fighting for points (a depleted team at that) and a team that is clearly playing for the manager, who has been here over 4 years now and we haven't gone down. Some fans just can't see it that it could be a lot worse.
The DJ hit the nail on the head again with his half-time selection of 'Teenage Kicks' for the two youngest teams in the Premier League. He's getting good at this.
It was good to see Antti Niemi back at St Mary's for the half-time interview too.

Agreed, I get it that when we are losing loads and playing poorly the fans start to call for the managers head, I feel the same myself. When we start to win or just show the required fighting spirit I'm just happy to change my mind as I like to think my middle aged ego is not so fragile that I can admit I'm often wrong in my views. The same for Elyonoussi who I have slated at times and I thought was really poor in the first half. Brilliant second half and I'm absolutely delighted for the lad. Who wouldn't be?

My point was the first half was awful. At the start of the second half there was a lot of give and take between him and the coaches, what appeared to be a change of formation and they actually started playing football instead of snakes and ladders.

What? Like when they went one nil down he turns his back on them and walks away shaking his head, instead of most other exponents of man management who would offer encouragement and a 'don't let your heads drop' message from the touchline?
As did Arteta when Saints equalised.

Final Straw. Benching Che Adams after his midweek performance is just crazy. If he's got a knock then he shouldn't be on the bench. Ralph did this to Che last season dropped him when he was having his most productive period. We are just going to park the bus today & try to keep the score down. I reckon Ralph is doing this to manipulate the sack so he gets how big pay off & early reretirement. Brighton didn't park the bus against Man City yesterday & albeit they lost at least they made a real game of it. What Ralph continues to do with is team selections is nothing short of ludicrous. He's an embarrasment. Please get shot of him before it's to late. By the way I've just watched Obefemi score for Swansea.
Well if you’d kept updated you’d of seen that he’d had a tight hamstring so Ralph started him on the bench so that if we didn’t need him we didn’t need to risk him.
And also yeah Obafemi did score for Swansea… in the championship! And as both Adams and A.Armstrong have shown, just because you can score a few in the championship, doesn’t meant you can in the prem (which we also saw first hand ourselves when he was playing for us!)

He's completely anonymous. Why start him over Djenepo who has at least shown some improvement recently. More bizarre team selection - I understand Che Adams being on the bench, he's not quite fit. but Diallo?
But Djenpo ain’t a central midfielder, and I’d we didn’t play any more we’d of just had Prowse in the middle, but due to injuries and player sales we’ve only really got those 2 left right now if Aribo further up front

I agree, Ralph's body language doesn't help to lift the team. He expects the crowd to do it. Even before the kick off he looks fed up & instills fear into the players. But whatever he did at half time worked. The only mistake he made today was bringing Theo on for an uninspiring cameo.

I thought Diallo had a tidy game, JWP moved the ball quickly and forwards for a change and not backwards, and everyone had a great game, but for me Lyanco was MOM, he stopped everything down the right side, where Walker-Peters is great going forward he often leaves holes at the back, Lyanco was a rock today.

Yeah, Lyanco had a great game and he adds more steel to the back line. Diallo has his moments but he gives the ball away cheaply and in dangerous areas, looking forward to Latvia coming back and getting back in the groove. I'm convinced this is going to be a season of struggle what with all the young players and a lack of another decent striker. It's looking really tight with the bottom 10 all fighting hard and it could be really tight this season. I'm just glad these last three games where I don't think we've played particularly sparkling football but have at least shown enough tactical nous and minerals to give it a bloody good go this season with a limited squad.
