| Update on the pitch 12:23 - Nov 6 with 50452 views | LeanneConnolly | Please see the below sent to members of the CAB by Jamie Willoughby who has given us permission to share. "My main message is to reassure all fans that this issue has the 100% focus of the Club, the board and the ownership group. There has understandably been much speculation amongst fans about what action should or could be taken at this point. We are looking at all available options. Some of the more extreme options have significant technical, logistical and/or regulatory challenges associated with them (and in some cases all three of these!) but we are not ruling anything out. We are working through all of the possibilities with the various 3rd parties involved to assess feasibility. If we consider that any of the options are feasible / deliverable and will materially improve our position, we have the support of the majority ownership group to proceed with them. In the meantime, we continue to carry out remedial work to the pitch and manage the current situation as best we can" [Post edited 6 Nov 12:26]

Considering the rumours going around from people in the know I would personally hold off from booking a room in Rochdale for this weekend. One closer to Eastleigh may be better.

Oh so is there a potential for a fixture reversal then? No need for a hotel if that was the case.

Presumably the club are waiting for i's to be dotted and t's crossed before announcing their plans but if what I'm hearing from several sources is correct tomorrow could be our last home game this year. Who knows though in the ongoing Spotland pitch saga.

If this weekend was going to be swapped, with little advance warning for supporters, then wouldn’t those ‘in the know’ have thought about the fall out for Dale fans who weren’t planning a long journey this week? And wouldn’t Eastleigh want more than five days (actually less than that now) to tell their own fans to sell tickets? And if anyone who was truly in the know was releasing information they shouldn’t, they should think about the impact it could have.

You know the way it works. Been like that since I can remember. Realistically I can't see 2 games being played on Spotland this week regardless of wether those in the know are right or not. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It's difficult enough getting people through the gate at this time of year as it is We now have the Black Friday farce, and parents saving up for Xmas presents Iwhich hopefully includes Dale-ware) but something has to give financially Whilst the Eastleigh gate, if the fixture remains at the COA will be affected by all this, it could turn out a blessing in disguise. not just from the point of view of getting the pitch sorted afterwards but then playing more home fixtures when the festive period is over and people's pockets begin to return to normal [Post edited 24 Nov 18:15]

| Update on the pitch on 18:33 - Nov 24 with 1665 views | 442Dale | Assuming we need to move games to get the pitch sorted, the previously mentioned scenario involving moving Hartlepool and Brackley on 30/12 & 3/1 would give a 48 day window for work to be done after the Southend fixture. I’m not sure also moving Eastleigh and Southend to give an extra 11 days is worth further disrupting the team who are looking to build another winning run with two homes games. It should only be considered if pitch contractors require the full 59 day window. If the manager and his team are happy to play away at Eastleigh then of course that should be considered. | |

I suppose a hastily arranged away game is preferential to a postponed home game?

All depends on what the club/manager feel is the best option with the info they have. Would also depend on the agreement of other clubs as to when such a window for pitch work can take place. Some may be willing to agree, some may not. The logistical issues around moving a game away when it’s such a long distance at short notice will obviously impact those who follow the club everywhere. The costs for them before Christmas would be increased much more too. Whatever happens, would expect as detailed explanations as we’ve seen recently. None of it is a perfect scenario. There may have to be some slack cut around results too, because constantly playing away brings its own issues.

There can be no announcement until all relevant clubs, the NL and all other interested parties are in agreement. It is clearly a complex matter and one of some urgency. Making any public statement, even a hint through official channels before it's agreed, would be crass in the extreme. Let's just hope whatever the plans may be, or are - they improve the situation permanently. This nonsense cannot continue and ironically, the current owners are picking up the tab for the incompetence of their predecessors. That's the real scandal.

Indeed. Although if we’d moved the Everton game that may not have been an issue. If the pitch is that bad, we shouldn’t be risking anyone playing on it tomorrow either.

The pitch isn't fit for purpose anymore as we know, it's not going to get us through the season and is probably close to being a danger to the players. The club need to be guided by the experts, they will stipulate the amount of weeks needed and the club will have to abide by it...hopefully with no interference. What we don't want is corners cutting or a rushed job in order to squeeze in a home fixture. We don't have any other option than to do this work now i don't think. We can't have a dome permanently at the club/ over the pitch and at the moment if we get heavy overnight rain the day before the game it's going to be postponed. It was predicted a couple of months ago that our most difficult opponent this season could be the pitch and that's how it's panning out. The upheaval will be worth it though in the end and i'd back our players to win games anywhere this season, things like this can actually galvanise a club and it's players and make them more determined. I haven't heard about the Eastleigh rumour but it's a game we"d have to play anyway and we're good away from home. Inconvenient i know but it's a minor problem for the fans when you think what we've been through over the years. Thank god for the Ogdens🙏🙏
| Update on the pitch on 19:14 - Nov 24 with 1446 views | dingdangblue | The forecast for tomorrow is ok - after that it looks like rain every day for the foreseeable future putting in doubt both home league games coming up. I can't see any of the other clubs having any issues with us playing away so we can sort out the pitch. | |

I agree with what you say, and I don’t think it couldn’t or shouldn’t be done, I just doubt very much that this weekends game will be changed at such short notice. Let’s hope tomorrow is off to give Saturday a chance of going ahead. [Post edited 24 Nov 20:50]

Which site is that? Met Office one has light rain Wednesday evening into the early hours, a bit of late rain early evening Thursday then dry until Sunday. The big thing is just how poor the pitch currently is. That’s what we’ll hear about I’m sure.

Me too. Let's just say there are some people involved in what happens at home games who haven't heard anything about this and would be mightily annoyed if hours of work were wasted without prior notification.
