The Gary O'Neil shouts 18:37 - Nov 8 with 4752 viewskingslandstand1

Was that a good idea when there is an incumbent who is apparently "in with a shout"?

Yes it was a good idea. The fans have told the club, he must not be appointed. It's our club. He has said "Pompey is his club". He can't manage Southampton with that being the case.

I wasn't saying I want Eckert to stay if that's what you were implying, not sure if I want O'Neil either tbh though not sure who I'd go for, just questioning the chanting of another managers name while we were winning

Saints have already had their ex-Skate experiment as Manager. That went well didn't it? NO NO and thrice NO.

I think they were not supporting O'Neil but making their thoughts clear that he should not be appointed.

However as when the fans demanded that Glenn Hoddle should not be brought back to the club in 2004 when we got Redknapp instead, the fans swaying the board is not always a good thing.

O'Neil should be judged just on his managerial record which to be blunt is not great, I don't want him here for that reason

As long as we are winning, there is no rush to appoint anyone. We need to at least wait until we lose a game before changing the manager. It would be horrible to see a new manager come in and end our winning run.

This is the first time we've won 2 consecutive games in more than 550 days. I want to see us win 3 on the trot now, then 4....

Gerrard would be good. Top ex player, who has worked under some world class managers. Won the title at Rangers as a manager.

Carrick would be ok, he has championship experience.

Mark Robins would be good, but would require compensation.

Rodgers is an option.

There are plenty of options.

I agree.
Out of all of the dross out there, he would be a good fit.
He’s not going to manage in the premiership anytime soon.
He could either be a pundit or manage somewhere like Macedonia
Coming to us is a win win for both parties.
Unfortunately no one can predict the future, we can only……speculate 😉

How many really top ex players make is as a good managers though? Plus that mumbling scouse accent just smacks of low wattage apathy (Rooney being a case in point).

Carrick seems down to earth and reasonable but has he been anything more than 'reasonable' as a manager?

Conversely Rodgers has a had a lot of success but seems an awful person.

Mark Robins - very solid, but at what cost?

Might as well hold out for Sir Southgate...

Winning the title in a 2-team league is hardly a sign of managerial acumen.

Someone like Carrick, would be an easy, doable appointment. He's not in work, so no compensation needed. He finished in the play offs with Boro, and they didn't have parachute payments or any finance for decent players, so did a reasonable job.. He has championship experience, a great, successful playing career, a man the players would respect. He hasn't set the world on fire, but he has plenty of his career left. They just need to do something like this, a steady, sensible appointment with no more experiments.

I like Eckert's personality, but he really shouldn't be appointed permanently based on two wins. We don't know how he would fare when faced with problems and pressure. His lack of experience would be a real worry. I wouldn't be against allowing him to continue on a game by game basis so see what happens, if we couldn't find a suitable permanent manager. Better that then rush into the wrong appointment.

Not many. Though didn’t we have a certain ex Dutch international as our manager ?
He didn’t do that bad. In fact most fans would say he’s one of the best we’ve had.
Despite Gerrards scouse mumblings I think he’d look at Lampard and think, I can do that.
At this present time we need a football manager who has played at the highest level and gets respect.
