Arguably the most important member of one of the most important bands of my youth. Brilliant musician for not the roses and primal scream. Really sad he died so young and have to feel for his nippers who’ve lost both their parents two years apart and they’re not even in their teens yet

Mani's basslines were a major part of the Stone Roses sound, although perhaps John Squire could be said to have been the most important part of that , although Mani not too far behind. There have been few bands who have had such an impact and are still so revered given they released just two albums the first almost 37 years ago, the second a mere 30. I only saw them once, at Spike Island in 1990 perhaps their most iconic gig, so that was enough

My argument would be without Mani's bass they're nothing more than any other indie rock band and fade into obscurity. His bass gave them a groove that made them stand out and made them different, which is why i think he's the most important member personally.

Potentially you are right he was integral to the formation of their music, but given that they have only released two new songs in the past 31 years and those were 9 1/2 years ago, they arent likely to write any new stuff together. That being the case they could get in someone to play his bass lines note perfect if they gigged. Yes he was a larger than life part of the Stone Roses, he can't be replaced, you could say the same about Peter Hook formerly of New Order, but if you go to see them without him, you can't tell the difference if you close your eyes

| Mani Stone Roses Q+A / RIP Mani on 17:14 - Nov 21 with 548 views | Wints76 | When I saw the Rosea on their reunion tours between 2012-7, Reni and Mani really came in to their own with the outros to the song, playing off each other with John Squire being the guitar hero. And Ian Brown doing what he did Incidentally, I saw Ian Brown one time.at The Guildhall way before the reunions, but he had started doing some Roses tracks. The notorious Guildhall acoustics actually really favoured him, and it was a great gig. | | | |
