| Be careful what you wish for… 09:29 - Nov 15 with 3242 views | davidargyll | 1. A speedy announcement of the appointment of a new manager. Surely, if nothing else, SR and/or Spors are being sensible taking their time to find someone? They realise that they have acted far too hastily in the past and don’t want to be accused of doing that again. Is it also not symptomatic of a lack of quality available, given that everybody mentioned has got no better than a checkered managerial cv? In other words, in my view they should take as long as they need to find the right person. And in the meantime let Eckert have the reins on a temporary basis. 2. Sports Republic and Dragan Solak selling the club. Being polite I would say that Solak was at the very least led up the garden path by Kraft and Ankersen, is ruing the day and is only now getting to grips with the club. Yes it has taken a while and he has still made a number of mistakes but better late than never And at the same time he/they have not starved the club of cash. OK they have cashed in on a number of (mainly over-priced) players but the ones they have bought in recently are definitely better than the previous lot. Also don't let’s forget it wasn’t so long ago that everybody was hugely anti Gao and desperate for him to sell and was more than happy when SR (with their successful Brentford connection) came in. Furthermore you don’t have to look too far to see utterly disastrous owners we could have had, eg Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn. Portsmouth, Cardiff. Without even mentioning the likes of the Glazers. No doubt I will be met with a howls of derision by suggesting that ST are not too bad owners, but if they were to sell we have absolutely no guarantee that the buyer would be any better. And could conceivably be one helluva lot worse. Be careful what you wish for… [Post edited 15 Nov 9:39]

Let’s just plod along with these clowns. They are saving me a lot of money I suppose so I should be grateful to Sport Republic. Remember The Championship is better than The Premier League.

Strange logic if you don’t mind me saying so david. Your suggestion would look a lot better if we were mid table in The Premiership. However, last time I looked we are in the same league as three out of the four examples you advocate as being disastrous and by implication with owners worse than ours. Not forgetting of course two relegations in three years, the second worst Premiership points record ever and the worst lack of winning results over a fifty match sequence in the history of English league football. On that basis please forgive me if I continue to wish for a change of ownership. [Post edited 15 Nov 12:12]

But what will happen to Saints, if we don't go up this season or next, we lose our parachute payments and our players on high wages are on the wage book? Two relegations in three years, 7 terrible managerial appointments, wasted 100 million on mostly terrible players. A club that was ever present in the premier league, now struggling in the championship with 4 wins in 2 years. Do you really think we couldn't do better than this? If the choice is - struggle in the Championship with little ambition with inexperienced managers or take the risk and get better owners, who might get us back to what we used to be, with the slight risk we stay where we are, I know what I would choose. I don't want years of struggling in the championship or worse, with this lot thanks. [Post edited 15 Nov 12:51]

Thanks for your forgiveness david. All joking aside. Yes, I would rather take a chance and go back to our previous struggles with possible administration and rise again from the lower leagues, than continue with (as a contributor to another Ugly article puts it ) this bunch of loons. Mind you, my opinion is probably coloured in that I’m of the view that Sports Republics aims and those of Southampton Football Clubs fans are no longer compatible. They appear to want to own and run a Player Trading and Fun Fair Business were as most of us just want a competitive football team which is once again fun to watch and support.

| Be careful what you wish for… on 14:53 - Nov 15 with 2725 views | DorsetIan | It's a fair post. SR/Solak have been terrible to date, but in sacking Still relatively quickly (for them) but not rushing to make another idiotic appointment, I have a small amount of hope that they might be learning. Add to that an interim manager who has won both his games and I'm happier than I've been for a very long time. I think we're on a cusp. Getting beaten by Jones in the manner of some of our other defeats this season and normal service will be resumed. But beat Jones or even get a point up there with a more solid performance and I'm still happy. It's a funny old game. | |

If young fans are that fickle, Bournemuff are welcome to them. My lifetime love affair with Saints is not conditional on winning or who the current owners or manager are.

Same here but youngsters are different now, it’s embarrassing being so far behind that noddy club and the losers that run us are to blame

If you were a multi billionaire, why would you waste it on a football team. You just get abuse and fans telling you that you know nothing about their team. Wouldn’t our owners have been better putting money behind the guy who invented plastic ends on shoelaces 😬 [Post edited 16 Nov 19:01]

He was probably referring to a young generation who live in Hampshire or Dorset and as yet, have no affiliation to a club through parents. When I was at school in the 80's I could name a couple of lads who went yo Dean Court regularly. Most were Saints fans by virtue of being in Divvie One. Naturally excluding those that were Scouse dud to winning everything.

Exactly why did Dragan waste his time buying Saints then one wonders..... Suspect £60m in the sky rocket and not a whimper from the Saints fans about our demise still ain't a bad little return, billonaire or not....... [Post edited 16 Nov 17:02]

Well, yes Bournemouth's rise has certainly exacerbated our recent woes, especially as we helped to save them from liquidation and now they have the audacity to be so much better than us.....
