| Steve McClaren Resigns on 16:10 - Nov 19 with 2272 views | Ifonly | I'm not saying that McClaren is the answer, but this shows how tricky the issue is, whichever way you try to solve it. In this case, yeah he's failed, but if we get an experienced manager then it will be someone who has failed along the way, unless it's someone who only has experience in the lower leagues. If they only have experience in the lower leagues then there might be a good reason for that, but also do we want someone who only knows the lower leagues? Maybe yes, but that puts us at a disadvantage if we're ever promoted because then PL experience is vital. You could say just get promoted and then replace the manager but that's never going to happen, so the likelihood is we come straight back down again. I think a lot of people are unrealistic about who we can get, apart from anything else because most managers won't fancy being sacked in 3 months time. Whichever way this goes I think the majority of people will be disappointed. | | | |

I think most managers don’t care about being sacked. Its a payday and normal in football. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

No one wants to be sacked unless they're 70 years old. No football manager wants to be paid off on a 3 year contract when it could ruin the rest of their 20 or 30 year career.
| Steve McClaren Resigns on 18:06 - Nov 19 with 2120 views | dirk_doone | Just what we need: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/steve-mcclaren-sees-jamaica-failure The manager who won their World Cup group is 78-year-old Dick Advocaat. After 25 managerial jobs his career win rate is still over 52%. He's achieved some amazing results like winning the UEFA Cup with Russian club, Zenit, and managing, Curacao, the smallest nation ever to qualify for the World Cup finals, at an age when most managers are either retired or dead. Managerial career 1980–1984 DSVP 1987 Netherlands Women 1987–1989 HFC Haarlem 1989–1991 SVV 1991–1992 Dordrecht 1992–1994 Netherlands 1994–1998 PSV 1998–2001 Rangers 2002–2004 Netherlands 2004–2005 Borussia Mönchengladbach 2005 United Arab Emirates 2005–2006 South Korea 2006–2009 Zenit Saint Petersburg 2009–2010 Belgium 2009–2010 AZ 2010–2012 Russia 2012–2013 PSV 2013–2014 AZ 2014 Serbia 2015 Sunderland 2016–2017 Fenerbahçe 2017 Netherlands 2017–2018 Sparta Rotterdam 2018–2019 Utrecht 2019–2021 Feyenoord 2021 Iraq 2022–2023 ADO Den Haag 2024– Curaçao I'm not suggesting he should come here, but hats off to him for such a long and successful career. Will Still is a very wealthy man now. 5 months work for 36 months pay. Laughing all the way to the bank. Russell Martin walked away with £7m from Rangers. He’ll never have to work again. And don’t get me started on Hasenhuttl. | |

Wealthy men yes, but not a patch on how wealthy they would be if they have a full career manging at the top level. Also, just like players they don't only think about money. They want to work their way up from success to success and win some prizes. None of them want to be remembered as a failure. They want the glory too. Working at SFC under Banana Republic puts that career plan at risk.

If I’d of just been sacked with a £7m golden handshake plus what money I’d already accumulated in the game I wouldn’t give a flying if people thought I was a failure. I’d be on the next plane outta this broken country to somewhere warm. I’ll send you a postcard babe. WE MARCH ON

This And this is the problem these days, how many managers really give a toss? They are set for life plus it’s more common now that the managers with no real history in football waltz in and then get fired and paid off Crazy business, what other job can you work such a short period of time badly and then be paid off so ridiculously

Exactly. I’m sure Mourinho doesn’t mind being a “failure”. He’s done alright, thank you very much. How many times has he been sacked ? Still though he’ll always get a job in elite football…

You really think a man with an ego like Mourinho doesn't mind being seen as a failure?? You've obviously never come across anyone with an ego half the size of his. Unfortunately, I have.

A reply that's up there with your normal standard Tony... p.s. I suggest you don't ever ask Mourinho if he minds being remembered as a failure.
