Give Slack Jack some slack 18:29 - Feb 25 with 616 viewsGRIM

I've been one of Slack Jack's biggest critics but credit where its due he's done a very steady job since he got back into the side.
I think the fact that Tonda has done away with the 3 ctr back system has helped us defensively, both Jack & THB look better lined up as just 2 ctr backs with 2 conventional full backs making up the back four..
What also helps is having a keeper that organises his defence.

He's earned some respect this season. Perhaps we could call him Stephens instead? Big Jack will always be associated with Jack Charlton. But, at least we should get rid of 'Slack', as it implies we're criticising him, every time we mention him.

Captain Jack has been good

Ready made song to be nicked from QPR who've sung it for years

Whoohh Captain Jack
Meet me by the railway track
With a bottle in your hand
I'm going to be your drinking fan
Go left, go left
Go left right left

Whoohh Captain Jack
Meet me by the railway track
With a scarf in your hand
I'm going to be your Southampton fan
Go left go left
Go left right left

Fail we may, sail we must

Ive never called him slack jack, I have always given him the respect that he has earned as a loyal servant of the club, for much of the last 9 years since his League debut he has not been up to the standard we have needed, but he has been a tryer.

In the last half dozen or so games he has put in some good displays and deserves his place in the team, long may it continue

He is living proof that you should not write off a player, he must have had the longest ever gap between his club debut and his second game.

He made his debut on 7th January 2012 in the FA Cup against Coventry City a 3 minute sub appearance.

His next game this time in the League cup, came in October 2016, some 4 years & 9 months later.

His League debut came on 2nd January 2017 at Everton just 5 days short of 5y3 5th anniversary of his debut.

I did say before the Fratton game that he needed to come back into the team, so can only presume Eckert was reading the Ugly 😉

In fairness, I said he should be left-back as I thought Welington and Manning were both hopeless, but they have both upped their game.

I thought they were both crap too but suddenly we’ve got two decent (Championship) left backs.

You cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into.

The whole defence has improved since Fratton and a lot of credit has to go to Tonda for incorporating Bree back into the club, Jack is also now displaying captain/leadership qualities on the pitch.

Tuesday night’s performance showed why we let Ronnie Edwards go. Got bullied by Latin much like Kieffer Moore did .

I own up, was the one that instigated the Slack Jack comments.
That was based on Jack's mistakes in previous seasons.
But he's stuck at it & now he & THB looked like a decent Championship partnership.
I watched the QPR game on Sky & just loved them showing the teams in the tunnel before the game, Jack was talking to the little mascot lad as if it was his son.
I get it now, that's why he is club captain & been given a new contract.
It's not all about ability it's just as much about commitment & character & Jack certainly doesn't lack that.
So away with the SlackJack in future I'll refer to him as
" CrackerJack".
