We beat Walsall at home in League One

The score was 5-1 with goals from Jason Puncheon, Lee Barnard (2) Rickie Lambert & Adam Lallana.

For those that sing "Our Saviour Markus Liebherr" he wasn't being acclaimed by many in this game only 20,461 were present

You've got the score wrong.
We won that game 5-1.

Why take a pop at our fans ?

1st season in League 1
Points deduction
Walsall the opposition

We played Huddersfield the following week and won 5-0
Less fans turned up.

Maybe they were saving up for a trip to Wembley the following month ?

Yes the score was 5-1 it was a typo hit the wrong key.

I didnt have a pop at the fans, just pointed out the attendance

Yes 1st season in league 1 with a points deduction, but at that stage, it was not insurmountable.

Yes the following week against Huddersfield was a lower attendance, but it was a tuesday night.

The previous game had been even lower than them both.

At the time these were disappointing attendances as we were on a high after the previous season but some preferred to let Markus put his hand in his pocket than put their hands in their own pockets, the opening game of the season against Millwall, who brought a couple of thousand down was only 20,103.

You are right maybe they were saving for Wembley although that was still a month off this game.

I'm not slagging any fans, praise to those Saints supporters who turned out for these games,

On Feb 27 1965, I saw us beat Charlton 4-0 with all 4 goals scored by George O'Brien, but my first Feb 26 Saints game was a 2-2 draw with Norwich in 1966 with both our goals scored by Chivers. A Norwich comeback made it a bit of a blip in our promotion run-in. A couple of weeks earlier I'd been in the Fratton end to see us beat Pompey 5-2. That was more like it.

I was also at the Dell on Feb 26,1968, when we beat Everton 3-2. Ron Davies scored a last minute winner. It seemed like a big result at the time against a great Everton side who were one of the top 5 teams for most of the 60s. Alan Ball was superb. He really was at his best in his Blackpool and Everton years.

On Feb 26, 1977 was the big FA Cup 5th rd match against Man United, which ended 2-2, with all goals scored before half-time. The pitch invasion scenes after the game made the sports pages. It was so frustrating not to win that day. United ended our long unbeaten run in the competition by winning the replay and then the cup to get their revenge for '76.

Then Man United again at Wembley on Feb 26, 2017.....

We always seemed to get drawn against Man United in the Cup. We played 15 FA Cup games against them (Won just the 1 in '76, which means we've never beaten them home or away).

I missed Walsall, Huddersfield and a decent win against Leeds as I was recovering from pneumonia and pleurisy. Mybmate who I go with has taken great delight over the years in pointing out that I missed those games. I am looking forward to the next home game as he couldnt be arsed to go the other night against QPR
