Following on from Butty's post below, do we actually want to go up this season after what happened last season when we did go up.
We all knew that with the squad we had then it was totally inadequate for the Premier League and SR either thought differently or didn't want to spend the required money to make a go of it
Martin was totally unproven at that level as was evident the longer he stayed around as well as his total arrogance with the style he chose to play
Do we think this current squad is good enough to stay up? I don't think so with quite a few errors that don't get punished at Championship level but would be in the Prem.
Or will SR learn from the last time? I really hope so but who knows. Tonda has proved he can change his style when required and seems to be miles better than RM and gives the impression that he could out think Prem managers, but he is also unproven at that level
Yes we beat Fulham and Arse, but not their full strength teams

For financial reasons alone I want us to go up
If we don't we'll lose some of our better players and more importantly staff at the club will likely lose their jobs as we have to cut our financial cloth accordingly
Whilst I want us to be the best we can be, the money we'd need to spend to make ourselves competitive is probably beyond our means under the current ownership structure. also I like the championship, much more interesting as any team is capable of winning no matter who they play [Post edited 8 Apr 22:11]

Yes, I want to go up. Bringing in Peretz, Larin etc has shown me they have learnt and I think Tonda is the real deal. I am confident that the club would learn from last time and they just couldn't allow that to happen again. We have made a loss of 52 million, we need to get back up before we start losimg our best players, Tonda leaves etc. We need to be promoted. [Post edited 9 Apr 20:32]

If we get a solid CB next to THB to support him then he will be good enough. Might be able to get away with Manning and Welington.
Maybe get another striker as we know Stewart's minutes need to be managed and as good as he is we can't rely on him for a full season.
If we get good prices for the deadwood out on loan (Sugawara, BBD, etc) then getting quality into the team is achievable. |  |

We are SOUTHAMPTON. We belong in the top flight. With Tonda we can go up and stay up.
SR now have a successful manager who has multiplied the value of their investment.
They will be taking him seriously because he cranks the money handle.

We would need a totally different profile of player in the Prem.
You need a team full of absolute athletes, ideally all at least 6 feet tall.

I believe that with Tonda in charge we could do as well as the Poch/Koeman era, so Spors would have to find 2 PL level strikers plus Ross, another CB, LB and DM. It would be a tough first season but Tonda would grow into it. | |

Pros....Couple of lovely days out at Blackburn, Hull and Preston... Mmm..Fun?
Chance to beat the behemoths of English football like Charlton Oxford Swansea
Cons....Club's revenue off a precipice
Nigh on certain loss of Eckert
Extremely likely loss of THB, Scienza and Charles or Downes
Highly unlikely extension to Peretz and Larin loans
The Championship is for losers. We can be a functioning Prem outfit again.
As discussed a month or two back, Reynolds and his mate sold 10% of Wrexham for £25m to Apollo Sports (part of the giant Apollo asset manager)...a price that was no doubt based on them reaching the Prem. I can't see why Solak wouldn't dilute if the price is right and he keeps his UBO status.
