Media Frenzy has Blown Up Spygate Out Of All Proportions 15th May 2026 09:41
The old adage lets not get facts get in the way of the truth, is perhaps very apt in Spygate, the Teesside media started it off and then it seemed to whole country joined in, blowing up what is quite an innocuous rule breach in the grand scheme of things, into the most serious offence ever ! 24

Well written.

If the EFL do any more than a fine they will be setting a huge precedent for the future of the sport which would call for any slight judgment, error or foul play make the FA enforcing constant bans and fines. We'd never get any games played. Trying to gain an advantage has always gone on and always will. With the money involved these days this only increases the intensity but what a circus over a guy with a fkin mobile phone. If the shoe was on the other foot I would honestly think oh well we lost. The fellas a nob filming my team but it didnt cost us the game, which some boro fans have said tbf to them, Not sure if the narrative has been spun from the top down and MFC or the social media circus which surrounds our sport now has pushed this to a ridiculous level. What jumps out at me, and I didn't know this, was that you say he doesn't work for the club and is now at Villa.

Surely their entire case collapses right there? He used to work here but has left and is actually doing a sports analysis course which might explain his presence at their training ground.

This seems to put a completely different light on things. Where did you get this info from.

Then how on earth do we get punished for the actions of someone that does not currently work for Saints either as a paid employee or an intern?
If it's true we would not even have any knowledge of what he was up to - and he wouldn't be feeding the information back to us.

I wonder if he will be summoned to the hearing. If he says " er I was just doing it for my own studies and I didn't realise anyone would mind" then Boro are going to look very silly.

It's taken from an article on the Derby university website - where he studies - that was published in january 2025 so might not be true still

What is the truth here Nick? It has been said that he worked here on his placement year, then got a payed gig at Villa, but it has also been said he then came back to work for Saints after Villa. Can you confirm beyond doubt that Salty has not been employed with SFC since March?

Poll: Do you think there should be a seperate page for polls?

Franny that interview has this absolute belter in it.....
"My first experience of analysis in football and how the industry works was in my second year of studying. I was casually filming training sessions, games and then sitting in on a few pre- and post-match meetings at Nottingham Forest. "

There's two things we know for an absolute fact:

1) He was at Villa at the time of the Derby Uni article which was January 2025.

2) He since then has came back to work for us, at the very least up until a couple of months ago.

I think we must not forget that the rules state that clubs must not "spy on" an opponent up to 72 hours prior to the game commencing or something like that.
"Spying" prior to that is ok apparently but unfortunately Salt was caught on location within that 72 hour window. This rule was brought in because of the Bielsa Leeds scenario

Nick, you have several "facts" here completely wrong. As stated above, your "facts" come from an out of date bio on a university website. I looked at the code behind that and found it was published in Jan 25, while he was in the final year of his course, so it was all out of date. I believe I was the first one to do that (and reported it on your website btw).

So you look a bit silly to be honest. There are very few genuine facts that we can be sure of here. So lets not get on too many high horses until we learn some more. But from what we do know:

- You are wrong to call this an innocuous rule breach. If we're guilty, it's a serious rule breach. That's why the penalties may be so heavy.
- We are almost certainly guilty of something, the only debate is the extent.
- At the same time, your equivalents in the Boro fanbase are also completely wrong to say that we deserve expulsion. That would be over the top.

Let's try and be grown up about this and have some perspective.

If the spy didn’t work for us, and wasn’t feeding back any information then this wouldn’t even of got this far I’d assume.

Southampton haven’t denied anything yet which if it was the case in the article then I’d have assumed they would have. It must be said they haven’t admitted anything either. We won’t find out until we get a verdict.

One thing for certain is it has been blown out of all proportion by Middlesbrough and they have play the media very well.

Also football has moved on greatly the last 25 years since Nick used to pop down to staplewood.

I don't know why the word used for this has all of a sudden become called spying, for the previous 150 year history of the game it was called Scouting

safe to say there is a lot we don't know, unsurprisingly.

Looking at the photo, I can't actually believe the club would do something like that, it looks so amaetur with just a phone as well as using his bank card at Gibson's establishment? It doesn't add up to me but only time will tell.

I think he was at Saints at the time of the incident, what his role is/was is not known. If he was living in Southampton in was working for Saints!!

Hopefully this will be a warning for all statto virgins living in their Mum’s basement and wanting to get involved in football.

It should also be a warning to football clubs about paying peanuts and getting monkeys.

You cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into.

but then how come he wasn't in the March or April Manager month awards pic with Eckert and Co but was in the Feb Manager month award? Because he wasn't at the club anymore?

So many ifs and buts.

I still can't believe the club can be that retarded and is all very suspicious

After all the sleuthing and amateur detective work I've lost sight of when we'll actually know the outcome if the hearing.

Is the a date set yet for the hearing and/or when the finding a will be revealed?

Because he was away spying! The April award photo was taken on the day of the incident in Boro.

As you say, hard to believe the club would be that retarded but I suspect they would have been more on the front foot in the media if they had a solid defence.

The April award photo was taken on the 8th but the incident was on the 7th actually.

So why wasn't he in the March award pic? Spying again? come on lol.

Of course they wouldn't want to be on the front foot with the media, it's all about surprise and they would have been briefed on this
