"no actual spying too place, nor any attempt to spy."

I feel sorry for you Nick, you're so in denial. Of course there was an attempt to spy. I very much doubt that Boro staff would have run after him if he'd been filming the ducks. Nor would someone have taken the picture of Salt that appeared in the press.

This guy's post doesn't say that there was no attempt to spy. He says that it would have been very difficult to film anything from there if Boro had been on the normal 1st team pitch. We don't know if they were or they weren't. In the initial reports, Boro made a big deal about Salt picking up the sound of Hellberg's voice. That would be totally impossible if he was as far away as you say. So I suspect they were on what this guy labels as other training pitches.

What do you think Salt was doing there? Why were Boro staff so concerned if he was nowhere near the training? Why did Salt run away? Do you really think it would have got this far and Saints would be so silent, if there was no case to answer?

I think all these theories that keep cropping up are just wishful thinking .

If we weren’t guilty would it not have come out my now ?

Seems to me our sentencing is still under discussion and I’m not sure it that’s good or bad .

You miss the point, i inferred that there was no attempt to spy because he was 400 metres away from the First team training pitches, perhaps the intention was there , but intention is far different from attempting to do it.

There are several unanswered questions about this case which will come out in the next 24 hours.

I am not in denial about anything , but Boro made a number of wild accusations which have turned out not to be true and now seem to have gone too far down the road to back down

It's a fact that Intern Salt was there next to a tree with his phone in his hand, that's about the only fact we know from the photo but what we don't know is why and that's the crux of the matter? You do have to question the EFL though for allowing ticket sales to take place before they concluded there findings?

My main issue with this whole debacle is if they spotted someone spying and they legged it changed clothes and drove off how on earth did they get that image of him stood nonchalantly by a tree with an iPhone and not loads of surveillance apparatus !?

So you don't dispute the intention to spy (good, there is no other reasonable explanation for why he was there) but you're suggesting that he didn't attempt to do it because he was too far away.

If that was true, then what was he filming (he's obviously filming in the photo)? Why would he be standing there filming nothing? Why stand there filming instead of working out how to get closer, or setting off to where he could get a good view? If he's too far away for a good view, then why did he look so suspicious that someone took that photo of him? Why did he look so suspicious to Boro staff that they went to apprehend him?

The only reasonable explanation of any of that is that he had a good view of the training from where he was standing. I only hope Saints have a better defence than saying he was too far away.

If this is correct Nick, and I sincerely hope it is, then that means Middlesbrough are deliberately trying to mislead the EFL and general football community by feeding the media false information

If this is true what punishment should we be asking the EFL to dish out to them?

Read what I have written about this, I am not giving any real opinion of whether he was there under our instruction or otherwise.

I am merely saying that he does not appear to have actually filmed the Boro first team squad training, from what I have seen so far.

So the intention may have been there, but clearly he wasn't filming the first team squad as they train in a different area of the complex.

Why did the security go over to him, the answer is simple, try standing outside of any enclosed area and filming it and you will soon be approached by security.

Go on youtube and you will see videos who stand outside police stations and film them, eventually they get approached by a police officer and an argument ensues, as to why they are there and it is sometimes entertaining and they get big page hits and they earn a living.

Here is one with a drone put up at Staplewood ironically just days before the Spygate issue.

Now have we gone into a frenzy and accused Middlesbrough of spying on us, this guy probably got a lot more footage that Will Salt

"So the intention may have been there, but clearly he wasn't filming the first team squad as they train in a different area of the complex."

How do you know where they were training? How can you answer any of my previous questions if Salt didn't have a good view of 1st team training? If you're suggesting that Salt did it for social media hits, then why doesn't he have a channel somewhere with other videos? Are you seriously suggesting he picked that day, of all days, to start his youtube career with a video about the Boro training ground? If so, why not stay and explain that to security just like the videos you watch about police stations?

As for the video you post, that's from a Saints fan who says he's cleared it with security and isn't filming within the 72 hour window anyway, so I'm not sure why we should be angry with Boro about it.

Some things are just not adding up.

Here is a video of Middlesbrough training session which clearly shows the pitch they use is next to trees with a white picket fence around which corroborates what the Saints fan up north has said. If you look at the aerial view at the start of the video the pitch with the white picket fence around is at the top end of the site by the trees as the Saints fan up north has said.

Then if you listen to Sky reporter Keith Downie in the video Sky released he points back up the hill to the training building and says the spy was “spotted by officials from the club up there in the TRAINING GROUND.” So the training ground was up the hill where Northern Saint fan said it was.

In addition if you look at where the club officials “spotted” him from and where he was standing in the photo, their view of him would have been obscured by bushes.

Also if they spotted him from the training building which was quite a distance away why didn’t the training staff and players spot him who were apparently close enough for him to film.

Another thing is if they spotted him from the club building and came down the hill to apprehend him how come the photo of him standing beside the tree is further down the hill from the tree? They’d have to have walked past him then taken the photo and how come they’re looking straight at him and close enough to get a clear picture but he hasn’t seen them?

This is starting to smell fishier than the Fratton End on a hot day

Is the original post on here or SW ?

I agree with some of this claims as you see the two likely pitches being used are 100 to 150 metres away from the gate. You could also get closer to them by walking around the public footpath in the woods.

Not really. I think it's pretty simple. What probably happened:

- Salt is standing by the gate & tree, filming the training, as reported by Sky
- one of the staff (maybe coaching staff) where the players are training spots Salt filming them and is suspicious
- this staff member gets his phone and takes the photo of Salt that was later released to the press
- this is why in "the photo", Salt is pointing his phone nearly at the person who took the photo of him
- the fact that the staff member got a good photo of Salt shows that Salt was close enough to get a good film of them training
- the staff member sends the photo to security in the main building and asks them to investigate
- the security staff come down the hill towards Salt to investigate
- Salt spots them coming and legs it off to the golf course

Simples. If you prefer a complicated explanation, look up "Ockham's razor" aka "the simplest explanation is usually the correct one."

At no point did I suggest that we should be angry with Boro, the only point about the Staplewood video was how easy it was to get the footage.

Nor have i professed to knowing anything else, so I cant say why be walked away as security approached

So basically you’ve ignored most of what I’ve said and then said you have a simple answer and gone on to say this is what “probably” happened. So basically you have no more of an idea than I have

You have said one of the members of the training team spots Salt walks up towards him and takes a photo with his phone. Well that’s not what was said in the Sky video and they were briefed by Boro, so explain that. You then say the member of training staff sends the photo to security at the top of the hill and asks him to investigate and presumably leaves Salt. Where have you got that from because I haven’t read that anywhere?

There are holes in Boro’s/ the media’s accounts. In the Sky Spygate video they say Salt ran to the golf club, changed clothes and made his escape into a nearby village. That contradicts the previous Daily Mail/Boro account that they apprehended him at the training ground and made him wipe footage from his phone.

The Sky video said when he was spotted he gathered up his equipment and ran away. Boro gave them that story but then they release a picture which shows he has no espionage equipment so that’s false.

You have to question why Boro were training on the pitch they claim they were, when it is smack bang next to the golf club house, golf course and car park when their usual and more private pitch is on the other side of the complex right next to their training centre and surrounded by trees and hedges so infinitely more private.

Who knows what happened. Everything will come out tomorrow. If Boro have been falsifying facts will they be punished?

No, I didn't say that. What I said is that a member of the Boro staff takes a photo of Salt from where the training is happening, which is why Salt is filming in his direction. He doesn't walk up to Salt, he takes the photo from where the training is happening, sends it to security and asks them to deal with it. Security then leave the main building and approach Salt. As I said, this is a better explanation than yours because it is simpler (Ockham's razor). There is no need for any mystery.

There are conflicting reports about what happened after security approached Salt and other aspects of the incident, but I see no need for anything other than a simple explanation of where the filming took place or what led to Salt being approached by security.

Yeh, I really don’t know why there is so much fuss about all this. Its all a storm in a tea cup.

This salty chap was obviously just standing around checking out the training facilities and the local fauna and flora. There is absolutely nothing dodgy in a paid Southampton football analyst driving for 5 ½ hours and 300 miles up the country during a cold weather snap, and just happening to locate himself right next to the very football training pitches where your next opposition is specifically setting themselves up to play your local team in a couple of days time. It being such a critical end of season game with enormous financial consequences is just strange timing.

The fact that he was a young lad and probably desperate to please and easily manipulated also means that there is little chance he could have been bullied by the club management to achieve their objective. The fact that he had a functioning camera with him, and it being thrust in the very direction of the Middlesbrough team is purely coincidental

Anyone thinking that some kind of advantage could be gained is totally kidding themselves. And the thought that this may have been happening several times earlier in the season surely must be madness. The way your club just happened to climb steadily up the table after appointing the new manager has to be purely down to good management, and the fact that he achieved this with the players who underachieved with the previous managers is again purely coincidental.
