Hampshire have been awful in championship this season, in hindsight would have been better off getting relegated to give the many good youngsters to learn their trade
T20 wise only rather second game, and crowd of 7,000 pretty good for a Tuesday night on TV pretty good, likely to be many more on Friday v Surrey
There were loads of under 40’s and plenty of kids there Tuesday, it’s only in Championship where the average age rises, with most 55+
Hampshire usually pretty competitive in T20 and one day cup, so despite poor start plenty to look forward to this summer [Post edited 28 May 17:16]

Thank god for the Aussie batsman Lehman and the captain/ batsman / wicket keeper Ben Brown who has chipped in with a few vital half centuries in the championship . The young lad Ben Mayes is a good prospect too but the other top order batsman have been very disappointing this season . I’m hoping we’ll do something in the white ball game. We’ve won it 3 times .
The only time we’ve won the championship was in 1973. I was a member then too and saw every home game . It was a joy to watch Barry Richards and Gordon Greenidge open for Hampshire. [Post edited 27 May 21:23]

He's been brilliant servant to the club
Not only do we miss his batting in the red ball game, but also his captaincy
If it wasn't for Lehmann and Brown it's would have been even worse this season, to have only got over 250 once this season in the first innings is terrible
The frustrating thing for me is that the warning signs were there last season, our batting was terrible then and thinking back its not been particularly good for the last few years, luckily we had Abbas and Abbott as the opening bowling attack who made us competitive | |

Pedant alert! We also won it I 61 under Ingleby-Mackenzie and according to my old man if we hadn't have had a total wash out in the last game in 74, we would have won it then too
Got my passion for following Hampshire from my grandad, he was very fine cricketer who was good enough to be offered a contract on the ground staff at Northalnds Road in his youth. His dad wouldn't let him as "there's no money in it" so he got a job at the OS and after the war played for Weybridge for many years.
I went to a second 11 game with him in the 80's, we were the only people sat in the pavilion and after waking up from an afternoon snooze I found him in a deep conversation with Malcolm Marshall about fielding positions
Use to love going down to Northlands Road and would always got to at least one of the days at Basingstoke, could never understand why the stopped playing there as it was always very well attended [Post edited 27 May 21:39]

Yes great times at Northlands road. I used to travel to other games too at Bournemouth, Basingstoke and even the skates services ground.
I’ve seen Hampshire win a few trophies at Lords in the one day finals. We had a great period of winning things which was nice after many years of not winning after their 73 championship win and 1979 John player league win. I’ve still got many old John player league scorecards from the 70’s in the loft. I used to score every ball .
My dad , brother and myself played for the same club for 40 odd years. I used to open the batting with my dad.
My dad opened the batting for Fordingbridge too when he was a younger man . His claim to fame was playing for Fordingbridge against Hampshire and Fordingbridge were represented by England Test cricketer guests The great Freddie Trueman and Frank Lowson of Yorkshire and JJ warr of Middlesex . My dad scored 23 runs facing Hampshires cricketers. I’ve still got his paper clippings .

Getting down to Hedge End from Haslemere after work isn't really viable
My Dad and I went to the first 3 one day finals, the win against Surrey in 91 is probably the best 1 day match I've seen. Robin Smith in his pomp and Jon Ayling flat batting a 6 into the Lords Tavern
Recently found the highlights of the 88 final against Derbyshire, I remember Steve Jeffries bowling being pretty tidy on the day, but I didn't realize his figures were that good!
As previously mentioned, my grandad played for Weybridge for many years, his finest hour was in 1953 when he scored 88 against a Surrey side including the Bedsers. My dad still has the match ball, his gloves and bat from the day [Post edited 28 May 20:16]

A great win against one of the best teams in the country and a thourghly enyoyable evening under the lights chatting to many saints fans I knew and unlike Tuesday a very big crowd was on show. Excellent game last night, and crowd was big, 2/3 of ground had most seats full, plus 2 to 3 rows of supporters on the walkway at the top of those seats
