All This Holier Than Thou Posturing 21:32 - May 27 with 5671 viewsSaintNick

I have seen countless posts all over social media proclaiming this as the worst event in the club's history and how we are now destroyed as a club etc etc.

In truth this isnt the worst event or shameful in our history, it is perhaps behind these, some long forgotten.

1. In 1982 after UEFA cup tie in Norjopping in Sweden, tow of our players were detained and accused of rape in the team hotel , they were unable to play on the Saturday at the Dell still being in Sweden, but received full backing from the crowd.

2. In 1984 after an extra time injury time winner from Everton in the FA Cup semi final Saints supporters responded to a mini pitch invasion which escalated at the final whistle into what was described at the time as the biggest ever mass outbreak of fighting at a football match, both sets of fans going tow to toe on the pitch for half an hor or so as the police struggled to regain control as police horse galloped across the Highbury pitch aided by dozens of police dogs, neither club got much punishment.

3. In 1994 Saints goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar was accused of match fixing both at Liverpool and in Saints matches and charged, no one called it the end of SFC and the crowd at the next game chanted Bruse is Innocent and two fans unveiled a banner in the Milton Road penalty area, charges were eventually dropped about 3 years later.

So here are 3 things that I think tainted us as a club and had far bigger repercussions at the time but are now largely forgotten or unknown unless you are over 50.

Some people seem to revel in proclaiming doom and gloom, we do what we did back then, dust ourselves down, stick 2 fingers up at the critics and march on.

I am sure there are more than these 3

I think you need to wait for the outcome of the FA inquiry.

Adam Blackmore has come out and said that saints like Tonda as a coach and are waiting to see what the FA have to say as it might be taken out of their hands.

Yes, discussions and decisions to be made on the way forward. The FA investigation may make some decisions for them, rather than them doing anything before that.
It's not the way I would have done it as l've said previously but i think they like Tonda as a coach and aren't of a mind to sack him unless the FA effectively take it out of their hands.

Some of the so-called fans who just accept the injustice of this punishment would even say, sorry, ok, if a stranger came to their door and said I'm taking your son away because he scratched my car.

Fortunately most true Saints fans are not like that:

Good post Nick, this is only seen as the worst event by some fans because of the endless propaganda telling them it is and their inability to discern that.

I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it.

For once I’m in full agreement with you, it’s time to get behind the club and stop being snivelling drips like boro.

Some great points. Grobbelaar throwing games was much worse, as it was against us! I remember fans holding up £5 notes.

This has become so ridiculously serious. I actually love Tonda for having some dam urgency and desperation to win games for this football club. He should stay. Whether the FA allow us to make this decision, is another matter.

Tonda to stay, and let's roar this team back to the PL. If he goes, I fear for the future.

Excellent post Nick. Fully agree.

My concern isn't about the morals of what happened (though I found it pretty embarrassing how amateur we were in both carrying it out and the defence offered) but the fact that we have built a pretty good team which had come back strongly after the joke of 2024/5, and now we could lose the manager (whether our choice or not), and the team could be torn apart. I find that quite upsetting. We didnt need to do what we did.

None of those three events cost the club minus four points and a potential 200 million quid, or even got the team chucked out of a competition. And why didn't you mention the Bob Higgins case? From what I gather, people in the club at the time knew about it, or at least had concerns, but did nothing. That is truly more shameful than any of the three things you listed.

Those two lads dressed as 118/Harry Enfield Scousers at the last Everton game is far worse than Spygate.

Those two fellas who gave up their season tickets when the club started charging a pound for the car park. Far worse than anything that Will Salt has done.

Bob Higgins is the most shameful episode at the club.

Good post Nick. Anybody know how the meeting with the Players yesterday went on along and how some of them feel about the current situation?

I'm surprised that nearly 24 hours after the event, we have not heard even the most minor of rumblings.

I did say that there were other events, you are right the Bob Higgins issue was perhaps the biggest.

It always surprises me that Danny & Rod Wallace are spoken to in revered terms by some.

Higgins was their agent and when he was sacked by the club, they fully knew the situation but continued to keep him as their agent.

Higgins then gained revenge by stopping Rod signing a new contract ( Danny had already left) and making him run down his existing one, refusing to let Saints get a decent offer for him and eventually having to settle for a far smaller amount at a tribunal

If the FA is going to start suspending managers for “cheating” then there will be very few left!!

SR are just doing what they always do. Stick their head in the sand and do nothing.

What will happen is that they be too scared to sack the ADHD Kraut, he'll be banned for 6 months in September and we'll be struggling to find a replacement.

This who episode is not so much shameful but just utterly moronic. Everyone involved should be sacked inc. Spors if for nothing else than not knowing what has taking place on his watch. The failed hoover salesman needs to go as he lied to the FL enquiry ffs.

Our decent run was more down to us having a vastly better squad than other teams in this league. The only reason we were doing badly is that SR employed some Belgian gaming kid as our manager for some obscure reason.

The owner needs to grow a pair and sort this out. SR have been treating him as an utter mug since day 1.

If Eckhart stays we will end up losing more decent players than if we rid ourselves of him.

Hard to argue with that, particularly when you hear Merrington's comments about it.

I think the word 'cheat' and cheating is far more toxic than egs given.

It means those responsible have to been removed, no ifs or buts.

The thing with you UTS/Poirot is you are permanently embarrassed by this club whether it's Matt Le Tiss talking truth to power or any number of other events, you must have a face redder than a baboon's arse.

4. Rupert Lowe allowing Saints to go into administration days after the deadline for us to get 10 points in relegation to league one season 2008/9 , rather than the 2009/10 season was one of the worst events in our history imo.

Plus the ridiculous managerial appoints that season.

Being relegated would be up there after 27 years in the top league.

Barclays Bank are 100% responsible for the club going into admin.
