I can’t remember a WC like this.
Most “early kickoffs” are at 10pm European time. I get up during a workday at around 5am.
It means I’ll only see games if England can actually do something.
Apart from that, this has to be the first WC for me since 1978 (my first WC) which will pass me by.
I remember being in the 4th year at school (1982) rushing home, so I could see our game against France. Missing the first 10 minutes and Bryan Robson scoring.
What a mess, that the average football fan in England and Europe can’t enjoy something that only comes every four years [Post edited 14 Jun 15:51]

I haven't watched any of it, other than seeing bits of stuff on Twitter.
If I'm not at a tournament, I find it really hard to get involved with it. Whereas if I'm there I'll happily see games in a bar out there.
I will probably watch the England games at home, but that will be about it.

It's going to be the most watched World Cup in history. The attendances have been phenomenal, averaging over 60,000 per game. The worldwide TV viewing figures will break records too, boosted by the fact so many countries are involved. But, you're right, the times of some of the matches don't suit TV viewers here, as has also been the case in several previous world cups.
They seem to have adjusted the times of matches as much as they can to suit the time zones in the countries involved in each match, but where they conflict, one of the countries may miss out, as happened to Scotland against Haiti. They both have small populations, but there are a lot of Haitians in America. England v Croatia is at a TV viewing time to suit both countries.
What I remember of my first World Cup, Chile in 1962, was that it was something that happened on the other side of the world, we read about in the papers. None of the matches were televised live in the UK; there were just a few recorded highlights. Worldwide viewing figures would have been less than 1% of those today, in what is probably the most visible World Cup in history. [Post edited 15 Jun 11:52]

I do think it's a bit arrogant of fans over here to complain about kick-off times.
Danny Baker seems to be particularly outspoken about it on Twitter.
It is the global game, so we have to expect some of this.
The next one is in Spain / Portugal / Morocco, so that will be fine.
It is in truth one of a number of reasons why I increasingly prefer the Euros to the World Cup. [Post edited 15 Jun 16:16]

Good points Pat, I would suggest that compared to 40 years ago there are a lot more people watching it in other time zones than there are in Europe etc

Despite the ticket costs and fans being ripped off at grounds I have to say I am enjoying it. Grounds are full and new rules around time wasting are excellent. VAR not ruining games which the Premier league should note. Great game Cape Verde v Spain.
Compared to that farce Trump is putting on at the White House and the disgraceful deportation of a ref and coaching staff the World Cup has been much better than I thought. |  |

Being based in the US these days I had no interest in the World Cup and zoned it all out.
However, I've since watched most games and been really impressed with the tournament so far (hydration breaks aside). Some very entertaining games (Ecuador vs Ivory COast was a cracker, as was the 2nd half of Holland vs Japan). VAR doing its job and doing it quickly (premier League take note).
The US were on fire against Paraguay and it'll be interesting to see what they do against better teams.
Surprised to see the stadiums so full and cracking atmospheres.
The Dutch fans are magnificent. With their party bus shipped from Holland to the masses of partying Dutch in Dallas in a sea of orange they have been superb. | | | |
