Ward-Prowse on the way back to Saints 05:51 - Jun 18 with 6061 viewsSlacker

One report is saying the 31 year old is in his way back. Claiming kids already sorted at Winchester school.

Is championship his level now?

Again, is this because Jander and or Charles are departing?

God I hope not. Sorry, unpopular opinion no doubt, but always felt he was overrated. I do not think he is a step up on anything we have.

No, not an unpopular opinion. We've moved on from that era of playing out from the back and slowing the game down, back passing etc, which is exactly what he would do.
Another no from me.

Game has moved on apace since he was last here...Can't think he would have contributed much last season and therefore even less next. Hard to believe Eckert would fancy him.

Given my track record, he's probably signing this afternoon....Doh!!

On the season we got relegated, only Ward Prowse and Lyanco exited via the backdoor of Staplewood so that they didn't have to meet the fans.
Said everything I needed to know about what he thinks about us.

JWP has nothing to offer that we need and just like Lallana, he ran off for the big bucks. Good luck to them. They aren't the prodigal son though and I have no interest in their return, sucking up a chunk of a player budget whilst making no difference to us as a team or club.
Look at how Lallana is benefiting whilst having no obvious positive impact on the Under-21s. Can do without another entitled, inflated ego floating around the club

We've all moved on

We have younger, hungrier players in his position already

Having now had a bit of a clear out, including saving the wages of a few top earners, why would you want to waste that money on a has-been ?

Please tell me that this is just a rumour.
There's no way that I would want JWP back here.
I always thought that he was just average, he was hard working & efficient but there were so many things that he was not good at.
He had no pace.
He had no vision to play a telling ball
He always looked to play sideways & backwards.
He was not strong in the tackle & not a ball winner.
His limitations have been cruelly exposed since he left us & he's been unable to get regular game time at West Ham + Forest + Burnley.
He would be a massive downgrade on what we currently have..

Why not, it went so well with Walcott, Lallana and Romeu...

I think romeu the enforcer inflated his ability,I always had him down as a bread and butter player with a free kick in him, nothing wrong in that its just what he was.

You're right Oriel Romeu was JWP's protector..
Oriel did all the dirty work & took the bookings not just for JWP but for many others.

I think you are all being a little unfair on JWP,

Did he leave via the back door when he left 3 years ago ?

I don't think so, still at the club on the opening day of the Championship season at Sheffield Wednesday, with a move lined up, he could easily have pulled out of playing but didn't and played.

Then there are the stats 410 games, 55 goals & 52 assists in all competitions.

At 31 he is no longer a youngster, we got a good 10 years out of JWP and then a lot of money, we had his best years, he deserves respect.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing him back, he is versatile and can pass a ball, in the later years it did go sideways a lot, but you could say that there wasn't a lot in front of him to pass to

Agreed. I'd have him back, he's certainly got more to offer than Walcott, Lallana and Romeu did. They were all past it.
Funny how everyone thinks Romeu was a waste of time, but many were over the moon when he came back.

JWP could be useful. His experience and ability to keep the ball. He was never fast but he did many things well.
It can be said he wasn't progressive enough but I'd play him as a 6 and let someone else do the creative stuff in front of him.
For the right money it makes sense.

My wife and son waited outside Staplewood the whole afternoon to get player signings. Thats how I know JWP exited to avoid fans.
Can't speak highly enough of the rest of the team in that context though. Both Walcott and KWP were class.

No one is questioning JWP's professionalism. Just his compassion.

He was good for Saints, as you say Nick. Wouldn't argue with that.
As others have stated, there's a reason he hasn't worked out for any EPL club though. Meaning that he is also unlikely to work for us, and we'll then be saddled with him for 3 years on inflated wages

Ward-Prowse on the way back to Saints on 17:09 - Jun 19 with 4366 viewsHytheFerrytales

He certainly didn't play much in the latter part of his first Hammers stint or his loans.

Forest and Burnley didn't seem to fancy him too much and when he wandered back to West Ham it very much looks like Nuno declared him to be a bit shite and didn't play him.

So he is conceding that the Championship is his level. Maybe he should research the requirements of the other 23 clubs first.

Romeu didn't do much on the pitch last season but he was here while the team was doing extremely well.

We don't know what impact he had behind the scenes and on the training ground but my guess is that is was a very positive one.

I can tell you a player who, in my experience, avoided the fans. Peter Crouch.

Far too slow and with little money around we cant waste it like Romeu, Walcott, Lallana who many fans pointed out before they signed.

His kids already went to scool in Winchester from when he was with us, and I'd be very surprised if he move his family up to London. Might be moving school if starting Secondary School this year.
