Those of us of a certain age will remember the soft drink in the 1980's Um Bongo with it's catchy advertising jingle "Um Bongo Um Bongo They Drink It In The Congo"

Apparently the drink is still going, which hopefully DR Congo or is it Congo DR will not be going strong in the World cup by 7pm tonight.

DR Congo sounds like some sort of James Bond villain

There won't be much exciting football today unless we score early so they have to come out and play. As with the other 2 games we've had against low blocks, we'll probably have to move the ball quickly and get lots of crosses in if we're going to win. So far against low blocks, both our 2 goals and all of our best chances have come from crosses.

Pickford’s got to do better there.

Djed Spence has brought Spurs' style defending to the England team. The DR Congo forwards are just breezing past him like he's not there.

It's a relief that we've made it through to the rehydration break without conceding a 2nd goal.

That 2nd Harry Kane goal was special. He is England's greatest ever centre forward.
With Saka, Eze and Gordon all on to supply him, he is a guaranteed goal machine.

We'd be totally fooked without him.

An even bigger task awaits us next ; Mexico. Win that - and even I will start to believe that maybe... just maybe!

That right side is a concern. Spence has been poor all season and Madueke has hardly played.

Konsa looks off it too. Maguire should have gone and Stone needs to play with Guehi.

I agree Harry Maguire should have gone & played.
And neither of our full backs are good enough defensively.
We will get badly exposed against a good team.
And we can't just rely on Harry Kane to get us out of jail.

One thing I’ve also noticed about England so far is that they don’t like being tackled and not getting the free kicks and protection from the refs that they would in the PL. Players can go down in the PL at the slightest touch but the refs are having none of it in this tournament and the English don’t seem to quite get it.

Or is this a Scouse thing?

I have never used ‘we’ when I talk about Everton or England as sadly I’ve never played for either team. It’s got nothing to do with scouse not English thing, that’s very much for Liverpool fans.

Possibly one of the reasons that I don’t use the words we, us and our when mentioning Everton is because I absolutely cringe when it’s used by Liverpool fans who have never set foot in the city, let alone Anfield, yet somehow align themselves with the success of the club.

My personal match report...

Kick off..tippy tappy..what FFS...is that Bazunu in goal? Where was Spence?

Bellingham is 50% brilliant player and 50% a droopy lipped kid, Rashford gets a pass on the touchline which goes through his legs for DRC throw.

Game meanders on...we are shit. About 65 mins I am aware my wife is putting on the sleeve of my blood pressure machine an talking about A and E.

I think how can we possibly lose to a team made up of recently relegated blokes, players from the 2nd tier of French and Spanish leagues and some dude who plays for Watford ?

Time to change 3 Lions chant, replacing "it's " with " the whole team " is coming home.

Oh what? hello..Kane..had to be him. My mind drifts the wonder who our pen takers are.

Oh my good gawd...we're winning..I go behind the sofa for last 10 minutes. Whistle blows and slowly I start breathing. Wife shouts " haddock chips and mushie peas on the table.

Coming I croak.

Apologies for that post ...PTSD.

Funny how Tuchel said he moved Rice there to provide width and crosses

who'd have thought TAA would have fitted in nicely at RB

mexico will beat us easily

Agreed. TAA would have been ideal for the matches so far. Perhaps not ideal for defending against Vini Jr, but we probably won't get that far into the tournament anyway.

Some of the squad choices do seem strange. I can't see anything that Spence offers over TAA. Then when Tino was injured why bring in Chalobah? He's never going to get near the pitch. I think a lot of squad choices were about personality. Henderson in because apparently he's all positivity in training. TAA and Palmer out because Tuchel doesn't get their more sarcastic personalities?

Palmer not being there is very strange. Quality player who can unlock a defence, meanwhile Henderson goes because he sorts out the darts tournament and is everyone’s mate.

James Beattie would make every Tuchel squad if he was a player now.

Palmer had a bad season and didnt deserve to go. It should of been Gibbs White. How can you be the top english score and not go.

Defo on Gibbs White. I’d have taken both. If Palmer has had a poor season, Madueke has barely been noticeable. The right back situation is laughable. I’m no fan of TAA, but dear me Djed Spence is hopeless and has had a poor season. Remember when Spurs always had players in WC squads regardless of how crap they are, e.g. Gary Steven’s (not the Everton one). Defo getting vibes of that.
