It could be the 4-0 win v Leicester in 1987,when a precocious young talent called Matt Le Tissier scored a hatrick. What ever happened to him? I'm only going by how empty it looks, the attendance was 11,000

This was definitely the 1986 game against United, Glenn Cockerill scored the winner in a 1-0 win
In that game the snow stayed intact on the pitch with the touchlines cleared so you could see them and an orange ball used.
From the fact that the pitch looks like the top of a christmas cake, it suggests that this picture was taken before kick off as there is no one on the pitch.
The Leicester game had snow on the pitch, but it was melting and as the game went on it cleared a lot, I seem to remember the Archers Road goal mouth had a puddle of melted snow bang in the middle of the six yard box and a certain goal for Saints didn't happen as the ball stopped in the puddle

You're probably right, I went to both games. At the United game some Saints skinheads, started scrapping with the United in the Archers Road end. I was in the East Stand terrace
