FIFA up to no good 20:58 - Jul 5 with 3147 viewsHytheFerrytales

Anyone see that the USA striker who got a straight red in the last game has had the standard one game ban, changed to a one game ban suspended for a year and will play in their game with Belgium.

Marco Rubio, FFS, apparently called wet noodle spine Infantino and demanded it be done as it was obvious the USA had been "screwed" by the on field decision.

Trump then posted his sincere gratitude to FIFA for doing the right thing to correct the the said miscarriage of justice.

Go figure.

Absolutely the right decision to rescind/"suspend" the red card - that was an utterly ridiculous decision to give a red card.

Not quite sure what you are complaining about.

They haven’t rescinded the red card, just delayed it a year. So they are saying the red card was the right decision. Will they do the same for any other player in the tournament now? It’s frankly sickening

They will say his foul was more deserving of a next game ban.

My take on the whole thing is that FIFA said nothing for days which suggests they were following normal protocol..i.e red card = next game ban.

Enter Rubio/Trump who using the Tardis go back in time and basically re-referee the game and call it a miscarriage of justice, then tell Infantino to fix it. The one game ban is suspended for a year subject to re=offending. How the hell and who the hell says what constitutes said " re-offending " ?

So in extremis every head of state will be all over FIFA when they have a similar issue as the USA guy in order to get a key player available for a big game.

Fooking bonkers.

Sickening level of corruption. Sums up what both FIFA and the USA are all about. Trump is reported to have made 3 calls to get the ban overturned. It's disgusting that a head of state would even try to circumvent the rules in this way. Not that Trump sees anything wrong in corrupt use of power and nor does Infantino. It's all: you scratch my "FIFA peace prize" and I'll scratch yours.

Can anyone in the world imagine that this could have happened if the red card had been for Belgium's star striker? Expect any marginal refereeing calls in the match to go the USA's way. The referee is from the mighty footballing nation of Jordan. He wouldn't be human if he didn't have the result that his bosses want in the back of his mind.

From SKY :

"Trump complained about the injustice of the suspension, apparently pushing Infantino to bring back the scorer of three goals in this World Cup, which the Americans are playing on home soil.

Belgium is pursuing a late FIFA appeal to seek the restoration of the suspension.

FIFA has not explained why it decided to allow Balogun to play while other players at the World Cup have been serving bans for direct red cards.

FIFA, which has not addressed the phone call Trump made to Infantino last week, suspends football federations it finds are influenced by governments.

But it's not the first time Infantino has faced criticism for apparently cosying up to Trump - when Infantino missed the start of a FIFA Congress to join Trump's tour of Gulf states, UEFA complained about him pursuing "private political interests".

As with anything associated with FIFA over many years under the crook Sepp Blatter, it's just as crooked now it seems as it ever was.

Extremely strongly worded statement from UEFA, no less:

“When the certainty of rules is no longer guaranteed by its guardians, the integrity of the game is at stake and the credibility of a competition is undermined. Equally, such decision creates a precedent in the ongoing tournament, where similar situations will now require an equal treatment, to the detriment of the competition. We express our disbelief at such an unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable decision.”

Just saw Trump's presser in the White house. He said..

He said he didn't know much about the laws of the game and had never heard about the red card'

However it was unfair our best player couldn't play vs Belgium so I asked Gianni to review and change the decision.

Infantino, who would eat a mile long turd of Trump's just to see where it came from, chose to do just that. This is an abuse of power and leaves the beautiful game tarnished for ever.

Trump is a lemonade sandwich.

And Trump has just admitted he asked for the ban to be reviewed. After Spygate I thought I'd seen everything, and now this.

It should never have been a red card in the first place.

It was a bit of a farcical way of getting it overturned however it does seem this story has been overplayed. Froth is piling at the mouth of those who already hate the idea of this World Cup (and America in general) for limited reason. The outrage is boring at this point.

The red card was harsh but I’ve seen them given. For Trump to get involved is completely off the scale for what is appropriate. I can see why Belgium would be livid. If this was against England, we would be quite rightly fuming. It’s astonishing that FIFA have adhered to a request from a president regarding an on field football matter.

It's a penalty for Ipswich and -4 points for Everton I suspect.
