5 Things About Mexico Game 10:29 - Jul 6 with 1943 viewsSaintNick

1, England fans truly out numbered, but led by our very own Hedge End Saint made themselves known and it must have been a great experience and feeling at the final whistle.

2. I have been a big critic of Jordan Pickford both at club and International level, but he was magnificent last night, perhaps I'm harsh but the fact that we were defending on our own penalty area for most of the game, meant that he couldnt fly off his line and out of his box and when he had the ball, couldnt dwell on it too much, but fair play to him.

3. I thought that VAR was right on the two big incidents, the first one was nailed on when you saw it on VAR it was dangerous play.

4. The penalty one was also a foul, Kane kicked their player's leg as he went to kick the ball, Kane kicked his leg on to the ball and anywhere else on the pitch it was a foul, so for me it was a penalty.

5. Having said that there could have been at least 3 more which were more nailed on that Kane's there was too much wresting going on in the penalty area, the ref didn't "see" any of them and VAR didn't call them, but the replays showed that our defenders had hold of players and shirts and held them

Agrees with all 5. I would add to number 1. Never rated Gordon and wondered what the fuss was about. But he had a great game always trying to take his man on rather than pass backwards.

I agree with you about Gordon, in all the excitement I forgot to give him a mention,

Have to agree about Pickford (reluctantly, generally can'tstand him), but he was MOTM for the 2 absolute class saves, but also the way he totally dominated his box in that pressure box 2nd half, and went down on the ball as necessary to waste a bit of time, something he is very good at in the Prem

I agree that Jordan Pickford was MOM.
He was fearless & immense , he proved a lot of his doubters wrong.
But it would be wrong to single anyone out, it was the best team performance I've seen from an England team for a very long time.
Lots of passion, lots of effort & a real togetherness.
Bring on Norway & we've got to replicate the Mexico performance to get into the Semis.

It looked to me as though Kane kicked the ball with the toe of his boot and only his shin hit the back of the Mexican's leg. The ref must have seen it like that too. Then the Mexicans went crazy and VAR only showed the ref pictures from the angle of contact with the leg. There was briefly one TV replay which showed Kane kicking the ball, but that never appeared on the VAR screen the ref was shown. They started with a still, which only showed the contact between the players. The speed and angle at which the ball moved also indicated Kane had kicked it, and he said he had after the game, when there was no need to lie and he knew replays would be available.

As for the red card, Quansah got the ball caught under his leg as he dived in so he couldn't bring his foot down. You could argue that he shouldn't have got himself in that situation.

But, when you win, it's best not to complain about these things. Tuchel did in his post match interview though.

Overall, a magnificent, battling performance from the England team. It was Bellingham's best game for England and Kane must now rival Bobby Charlton as England's greatest player. It's not just his finishing; his passing is superb and so is his defending. He is an absolute inspiration to his team mates.

I love Pickford, he’s been outstanding for Everton for years. They’d be screwed without him and wouldn’t be a top flight team. He’s England’s best goalie by a country mile.
