It's sad, it's definitely not the place it used to be.
The town centre has countless boarded-up shop units, a number of the pubs have closed, and rough sleeping is massively increasing.
I used to love going out in Bournemouth, but avoid it like the plague now.
Would recommend Ashley Cross in Lower Parkstone, or Southbourne if anybody was visiting from afar for a night out. |  |

Parkstone Station is indeed the best place to get off the train if heading that way, and then a short walk to Ashley Cross.
Or get off at Pokesdown and then a 10-minute walk to Southbourne. | |

When House of Fraser, Beales and Debenhams all shut down within a short space of time, they took the footfall with them and the smaller shops also paid the price. Bournemouth town centre is pretty depressing now and pretty much on a par with portsmouth city centre. Southampton is still relatively vibrant, as is Salisbury |  | | |

I know. The stage isn't quite big enough though. The musicians have to be shoe-horned in. The Anvil is a better venue. The BSO also play regularly at Portsmouth Guildhall, which is a gloomy venue with poor acoustics and, since COVID, it's been at least half-empty for most of their concerts. Audiences at Poole are better. They're now also playing some concerts at Fareham Live.

Audiences at Poole have generally been pretty decent when I've been there but not really noticed a lack of stage space. You can also get their choir on as well when required. As I said, acoustics pretty good as well, but Light house was designed as a concert hall
Also go down to Meryick Park for their open air concerts which are good fun, and they also play with rock bands as well to appeal to all with a decent light show
They are the Classic FM orchestra for the South as well | |

When Blair unleashed mass immigration around 2000 things started to change, there is a large population from third world countries, the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, Caribbean etc. Sexual assaults have gone through the roof and murders have doubled in 10 years from 98 in 2014 to 205 in 2024.
