Disappointing that our fine momentum from the end of last season was not continued in this - on paper - very winable match. However, with the too short pre-season and training obstructed by 2 international games for 6 of our forst team players and - not least - Armstrong coming back injured, the odds for maintained momentum from the end of last season were not great. And so we watched Saints lose 1-0 in a not so great performance, where we could have scored 2 goals but for fine saves from the opponents goalkeeper.
We will have to find a recipe for what to do against teams like Palace, who sit deep and only seek to score on counter attacks and dead balls, even at home.
Long and Djenepo didn´t get enough time to have an impact on the game from the bench.
Djenepo probably should have started in stead of Smallbone in this difficult type of game.
