Okay so it was only Newport but score lines like that don’t come around that often so credit to the players tonight who made it happen. It should give the whole club a lift and confidence going into the next set of matches.

Those on the fringes of the first XI like Elyounoussi have given Ralph some tough selection choices for the next match.

Played some very good football. Outclassed Newport by some margin. Their goalkeeper was poor but some nicely worked goals. Valery was excellent as was Walker Peters. Never thought I'd ever see Elyounousi score a hat trick! Apparently it was our biggest ever away win so nice to have been there. Credit to the Newport fans who stayed to the end and got behind their team

Annoying BBC! Saints score 8 against Newport who have caused upsets in recent seasons and we don’t get a mention, but instead cover Arsenal!
We’ve gone from struggling at times last season to put a credible team out to now having a seemingly huge squad, with a lot of competition for places. Let’s hope that competition leads to improved individual performances and results.

YES we know - only a League 2 club, but the performance was good to the extent we were still pressing into added time (at 7-0), and a great show from a totally revived Mo Elyounoussi who deserved his hat-trick.

Not only a great scoreline, but half of the start side aren't even regular starters at the moment., and even without Adams, (the two) Armstrongs, Romeu and Djenepo these lads did us proud.

Great pressing display right until the end. Perhaps this could be the start of a revival of fortunes. I know it's only a league 2 side but the man u performance surely spured on the whole squad. COYS

From audio match commentary from Adam Blackmore and Dave Merrington it sounded like a class performance from a well set up hungry team.
Happy for Moi Elyounouissi, KWP, Broja and Tella for getting their first goals and Redmond for getting the first of the season.
Sheff. U. away in round 3 could have been worse - but also better.
