Yes, well I will add my "Christian" vote to that, if he shows contrition and repentance then I would give this very young man - and lets not forget how young he is - a second chance.
He could be incredibly motivated to make amends. I doubt he will be given the chance though, as in these days of extreme reactions, the supercilious, holier than thou authorities, who we all know are the real cheats will want to scapegoat him and chuck him out with the rubbish to make an example of him.
