Eckert out. It seems Saints can only perform for the first 45 mins. I can only assume Tonda’s half time team talk is to blame.

Southampton v Sheffield Wednesday Your Report added at 08:22:13
Like others have said, let’s take this in context. We SHOULD have beaten Sheffield Wednesday and so it came to pass. We appeared much more positive going forwards with less of the passing backwards and sideways than in previous matches. That clearly benefited the likes of Azaz who had his best game in a Saints shirt. That said defensively we were poor. What is the point of playing 3 CBs if we continue to give the opposition so many opportunities. Despite the goal - what was Jack thinking with the pass and Bazunu should have done better - Wednesday had plenty of other chances which with more composed finishing could have made a real difference. Their long throws created havoc each time which made their decision to play corners short a bit baffling.

Thank you to Tonda for the 6 points but on the evidence of the performances in the two games (against poor teams) I don’t think there has been enough there for the full time post.

The Loch Ness Drogba surfaces at last! Well done Ross Stewart and let’s hope that kicks starts his season.

Lots to like about the performance. All 3 CBs won the vast majority of their battles, Azaz and Fellows were involved in everything good going forwards and Azaz just needs to sort his shooting out. What a difference it makes having a focal point to the attack - Ross Stewart didn’t get everything right but won a good number of flick ons which just needed Arma, Azaz or Fellows to gamble on. The equaliser was an odd one and from my angle I thought it was a decent block by Wood so would like to see it again. Keep playing that way, the partnerships will develop and the results will come.

I agree about the ref. I think Boro players could have caught the ball and it not have been given handball. Dreadful.

First half, Saints looked like a team playing a new system and some new players. Better in the second half but a lack of quality in the attacking third. I think this team will improve as they get use to each other and the system. Unfortunately it was too soon for this game but I hope the return match in January will be much improved. At least we didn’t lose!

Not the most coherent of performances but I do think that the side has developed reliance which is a good sign. As WS said those are the sort of matches that if you can’t win you make sure you don’t lose. It’s a decent point against one of the promotion rivals.

It wasn’t pretty and Saints barely laid a glove on City the entire game but the endeavour and fight was back after the pathetic showing at Leicester.

Hard to call out a single player when this was very much a team effort but Wellington made a surprise return to the side and played really well against McAtee and then Foden.

Great atmosphere at SMS as well especially in the second half. Probably the loudest it’s been since the playoff semi final against West Brom.

The season can now officially end.

Southampton v Swansea City Your Report added at 12:53:11
Let’s not get too carried away given the opposition was an average Championship side. What was good to see was how the players seem to be settling with Juric’s tactics. They pressed the Swansea back line well. The interchange between our defence and midfield seemed to work as well. Although it was odd to see Bednarek or THB quite far forward at times as they tracked their striker when they dropped deep, they did so as there was cover from Aribo or Big Les so we were never shorthanded in transition. Sulimana looked engaged but maybe it’s the cynic in my that felt that his improvement was more about trying to help him court other teams. Despite his two goals I felt Dibling was pretty quiet and I think his ability to drive forward with the ball suffered from the lack of a genuine striker in front of him to create space. Overall it gives me confidence for next season.

Not a pretty game and we have certainly played better this season but OMG did the lads show fight and graft to get the job done.

Fantastic effort and I think the Saints fans out sang their Leeds counterparts.

The only downside for tonight was the injury to Bazunu. I heard he maybe out for the season. We might get away with McCarthy for one game against a poor Preston side but with matches against Leicester and Leeds to come I hope Baz’d injury isn’t the defining moment of this season.
