Southampton At Leicester City The Preview

As long as there is " lax " defending at the back, we can opine all we like......nothing will change.

Everton Fended Off Last Minute Southampton Bid For Conor Coady

You simply despair. You do wonder what the thinking is at Saints HQ and Ralph. Let us hope it is not too late.

Watt View - Logical decisions, transparency and ability to adapt are needed to move forward
at 19:01:36

Well written but also very alarming. Ralph comes across more and more autocratic and will not let constant heavy defeats get in the way of his philosophy. Trouble is, somehow he and the team have been able to string just enough results together to keep afloat. I think this transfer window could well be the end of Ralph and our Prem status. Talk about the 11th hour.....

Southampton At Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict
at 11:49:37

Nick, we have a new coaching staff yet...the problems stay the same. Of course there will be no improvement if we persist with the same personnel. Our powers to be see exactly what we see yet...they refuse to address the problem. The bottom line is they are happy to see us finish above the dreaded line. As for Ralph...you do wonder whether he is angling for the sack.9

Saints Squad In Better Shape Than This Time Last Year
at 15:41:45

We are heading into a new season blind....yet again. We could easily finish comfortably mid table or rooted to the bottom. The bottom line is we still have not ironed out our obvious frailties. Goal keeper, concentration, lack of goals and Ralph's lie ups and game management and of course, our centre half issues. I think the Leeds game is a must win game already if only to break last season's dreadful losing streak. Ralph really has a tough couple of months ahead.

Saints Sign Central Defender
at 09:23:50

Stephens is never going to improve. Bednarek had a torrid season. To rely on these two is asking for trouble. Bella Kotchap is going to have to hit the ground running. Salisu's form was also very patchy. We have had no leader or someone to marshall our defence since Fonte left. It is quite obvious Saints will not get that leader. Moneyball is begin all, end all at Saints. That is fine....but it is fraught with danger. Especially when we can't seem to score enough goals.

Danny Ings Linked With A Return To St Mary's
at 10:06:17

I think it is unfair to hint Ings is a mercenary. ALL players are out to fleece the clubs for as much as the clubs are prepared to pay....Ings is no different. The fact he is a local lad may make it harder to bear, but.....Villa were prepared to pay £ 30K a week more or £ 1.5 M a year, and with his injury record....good luck to him. But.....it does not mean I like it. My era was the 70s when loyalty counted for something. When the Premiership was formed, they created a monster.....we are now reaping the benefits.

Leicester Interested In Southampton Midfielder
at 10:31:09

We may have the chance to offload our deadwood. I would be quite happy to get rid of 10 t0 12 players and start again. But......all the money gained from transfers and more has to be re-invested in quality not just quantity. The clock is ticking....

Gareth Bale Return To Southampton Rumours Start To Build
at 12:26:58

I think nostalgia and emotion should be left out of the decision. Walcott may well prove a good warning. Do we want the Ox back as well? What ever sort of salary Bale would command, it needs to be earned. Very tricky one..... Yes, we have lacked leadership ever since Fonte left. Yes, he has a proven goal record. Yes, he has a big game mentality and experience. Ralph....if it is his decision to make needs to deliberate this one very, very carefully.

Reading Interested In Shane Long Return
at 10:33:00

Very under rated. Seeing how a lot of players downed tools for two consecutive seasons once they knew we were safe, and pocketed their bonuses, they should take a leaf out of Shane's book regarding professionalism and work rate.

Che Adams Linked To Leeds United
at 09:54:58

Che Adam's treatment by Ralph has been strange as has his handling of both Armstrongs. Stuart Armstrong in particular, is and integral cog with his driving runs and eye for goal. All three have struggled for form but that is not going to improve being messed around by Ralph. The handling of these players has perhaps been indicative of the muddled and chaotic thinking of Ralph and his now defunct management team. It will soon be June and it would be nice for our club to get their players in out early in the window for a change.

New Era Begins At Southampton Football Club
at 16:36:48

I am at a loss to explain how the club actually allowed the manager/team to descend into such a dreadful rabble. Don't forget, we did exactly the same last year. Ralph must take his fair share of the blame....but, the players seem to escape blame. We are talking about highly paid players who simply downed tools, TWICE! The negative stats should make any professional player feel ashamed but are they? They simply trot out the same platitudes after yet another dismal display and move on. Semmers and co have a huge task on their hands. One thing is very clear, much of the same is not an option and will lead to disaster.

Southampton At Leicester City The Preview
at 11:22:48

Claude Puel was brought in to oversee managed decline. The real boss was Les Reed who had convinced himself he had re-invented the wheel. Redmond had arrived before Puel was appointed. Yes we finished 8th...but Watford were 17th on only 6 fewer points. We were spoilt by the Koeman years and a large amount of the fan base then harboured unrealistic expectations. I can name you at least 3 occasions over 4 decades where we finished in a very promising position and failed to kick on. I agree whole heartedly Ralph has kept us up.....against the odds at times. But, there is a fundamental problem at the club regarding the mentality of board/manager/players. These bizarre/dangerous dismal runs we go on after a promising spell which sees us virtually safe is nothing short of scandalous. It seems nothing can be done to stop these kamikaze runs? Who takes responsibility for them? Unlike many fans, I am not convinced there is an awful lot more money to spend than under the previous regime. Therefore, the board (who also carry much of the blame) must now think very carefully about the way ahead. Is Ralph the man? If not, have they identified a suitable candidate? Is the whole sale clear out going to happen? Are we going to appoint decent coaches? The Walcott signing has been a typical example of muddled thinking by the club. Are we now going to persue the Ox from Liverpool? Rumour has it McCarthy has signed a new contract while Fraser is discarded..... We have spent nearly two years intergrating Salisu into the "Southampton Way". Hmmm..... Let us hope we ARE going to see a root and branch overhaul and rethink of policy. Get rid of vacuous slogans such as " we march on" and get real and more transparent. If we don't, that trapdoor will open.

Southampton v Liverpool The Verdict
at 08:20:16

I have wavered on Ralph for a while now but last night tipped me over the edge. I have no real alternative in mind. Last night was square pegs in round holes.....again. Last night's tactics were baffling.....again. Last night was gutless.....again. This was a Liverpool B side. Where was A Armstrong? Where was Che? Why didn't Romeu start? We simple did not compete. I think Klopp gambled and Ralph duly obliged.

Southampton v Liverpool The Preview

A1079 is quite correct when he states we are only surviving because there are 3 worse teams than us, For the second season running, we have got ourselves to safety only to go on abysmal runs and were lucky to have escaped the trap door. Alarm bells are ringing very loudly for next season if this is allowed to continue and fester.

Southampton Unity needed Now With Safety Assured
at 19:13:12

Could it be the fact the fanbase has lost total patience with the whole set up? Semmers can say what he likes.....fact remains Ralph has to pull rabbits out of the hat every year and he knows, without proper investment, it will get harder and harder. Our whole management/coaching set up would not get a look in at any other Premiership outfit, it is not fit for purpose. Next summer will answer a lot of questions. Will the new owners have the funds to invest in decent players and if so, will they want to? Will Ralph have the motivation to continue should he not be backed properly? Are the club willing to invest in proper coaches etc?
Sunderland are a good example of what happens if you don't invest and hover round the bottom six for a few seasons. That trap door will open up eventually.
I'm afraid blind optimism and an inability to look facts in the face will not change the big, bib calls the club is going to have to make.
Fans are perfectly entitled to voice their displeasure if they feel short changed.

Saints Look To Have Premier League Safety Secured Ahead Of Liverpool Game
at 08:40:20

It has come to something that we have had to start looking over our shoulders, very anxiously!, and rely on other teams to stay safe. Before the Villa game, none of us expected this. it is a very damning indictment of the way the club is run, the lack of management structure aiding Ralph and add to that ralph inability to help himself at times. Having said all that, I do question the player's professionalism at times. Unfortunately, we are also a premiership side for whom the main priority is staying up and maybe a good cup run every season. And with each passing seasons, the margins are becoming tighter and tighter.
Ralph has got to get a decent coaching staff asap and really digest the saying, " horses for courses".

His fitness levels are questionable. We need a proven goal scorer who can last the season. Ings does not fit that bill.

Southampton At Brighton The Verdict
at 11:08:56

How many times have we seen Saints start a game so lacklustre, so on the back foot where we are chasing the game because the opposition has capitalised and we cannot retrieve the game. This is far from the first time we have seen this. JWP's goal could not have come at a better time. Full marks to the team for pulling back a situation which threatened to get out of control. I was high up in the gods with the Brighton fans and they were bemoaning their lack of goals.... As for Salisu.....you are right. The amount of times Bednarek threw his arms up in the air in despair at Salisu... There seems to be a desperate lack of coaching at the club at the moment. ALSO......we shall see what our new owners are made of because, as sure as eggs are eggs, expect some bids for JWP come the summer...
