Jewell: It'll Be Better Next Year

Boss Paul Jewell has promised any season ticket holders who might be considering not renewing this summer that Town’s home form will improve in his first full campaign. The Blues are yet to release details of their 2011/12 season ticket plans but a drop in numbers is likely with Town having broken their record for home defeats at this level this season.

Jewell said: “It’ll be better next year. I think the message when we came here was to make sure we stay in the division and if we get another two wins, that would guarantee that.

“I’m aware that results have been disappointing at home lately. Your home form is key because you want your fans to come and support you and enjoy coming to watch you.”

The Blues boss, whose will be looking to avoid Town falling to a fourth successive home league defeat for the first time at this level since 1954/55 when they face Scunthorpe tomorrow, felt fans were far from harsh after Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat to Watford: “I think the crowd have been very good. I’ve been a player and a manager and been 3-0 down at home and been absolutely ruined.

“The crowd were only showing their frustration, they paid good money. They’ve seen a little bit of progress but we’ve lost the last three games at home, which is obviously disappointing.

“The players are disappointed, I’m disappointed, but in a way I’m not surprised. I’ve been saying all along that we’re not going change things overnight here and we are where we are because of what we’ve got.”

Jewell has always seen the task at Town as more than just a quick fix: “I’m not here to say ‘Judge me after a year’ because I’ve got two years left on my contract and I want to be here a long time. Judge me over a period of time.

“Supporters are not daft, they know it’s a work in progress, they know that there were problems before we came.

“What happened was that we won two or three games, one of them 6-0, and one or two people got excited. I did say then to cool your jets and keep your feet on the floor.”
