Luton Targeted Drury Return

Luton managing director Gary Sweet has revealed that the Blue Square Bet Premier side approached Town midfielder Andy Drury about a loan return to his old club before his recent loan move to Crawley. The 27-year-old left Kenilworth Road for Portman Road for a fee of £150,000 in January.

Sweet said: “We were constantly tracking Dukes [Drury] and got permission from Ipswich to discuss a move.

“We made a very fair offer which included his full salary being paid for the loan period, however, Andy declined the move as he wanted bigger appearance fees, which we weren’t happy to meet.

“Whilst I don’t blame any player for getting the best deal on offer, we only want players at Luton who value being at Luton. This season more than any other season.”

Drury has joined Crawley for an initial 93 days with the deal including a clause which could see his move to the League Two club become permanent in January.

Meanwhile, the Blues reportedly could renew their interest in winger Gai Assulin after the 20-year-old Israeli international was omitted from Manchester City's squad for their 2-0 Carling Cup victory over Birmingham last night.

Town boss Paul Jewell played down Town’s interest in the ex-Barcelona man when he was first linked last week.

Assulin, who is yet to play a first team game for City, says he is considering his future with the club he joined a year ago.
