Vote now for your player and goal of the season
Thursday, 8th Apr 2010 10:32

All Rochdale fans are being invited to vote now for their player of the season and goal of the season. The two prestigious awards will be announced at the Dale Trust's sell out end of season awards night on Saturday 1 May.

To vote all you have to do is email your player of the season and goal of the season to awards@daletrust.org.uk . When voting for your goal of the season please list the scorer, the name of the opposition and whether the game was at home or away, e.g Chris Dagnall - Aldershot away. If your chosen player scored more than one goal in the game please make clear which goal you are voting for.

To assist you with your choice for goal of the season the Trust has picked out a few fantastic efforts from the course of the season to jog your memories.

Dale Stephens - Morecambe away - With Rochdale on the verge of a remarkable comeback having been 3-0 behind at half time, the ball bounces around in the penalty area before falling to the Oldham loan man on the edge of the box. The young midfielder hit a rasping drive that flew through a crowd of players and brought Dale level.

Will Buckley - Northampton away - Northampton had only just brought themselves level in the game when Buckley beat two defenders and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Kallum Higginbotham - Crewe away - Dale took the lead on Boxing Day at Crewe when Higginbotham gathered the ball fully 25 yards out and rifled it into the top corner.

Kallum Higginbotham - Accrington away - After a goalkeeper's clearance caught Chris Dagnall it fell to Higginbotham just inside the Accrington half. The substitute chested the ball down and produced the sweetest of strikes up into the air and towards goal. The Dale fans were sent into delerium when the ball bounced just over the goal line and hit the roof of the net to give Dale a remarkable 4-2 win.

Chris O'Grady - Lincoln away - Scott Wiseman burst down the outside right channel following patient Dale build-up play and he cut the ball back for O'Grady, who struck a deadly finish into the top corner from eight yards out.

Simon Whaley - Bournemouth away - Simon Whaley scored a wonderful solo goal as he burst from the halfway line and made a B-line for the Bournemouth goal. Defenders backed off and backed off, inviting the Norwich loan man to shoot, and Whaley did just that, finding the bottom corner with an expert low finish.

Chris Dagnall - Aldershot away - Things looked impossibly tight on the edge of the Aldershot box but Chris O'Grady layed the ball into the feet of Dagnall, who produced a divine turn to get clear of his man and clip the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Gary Jones - Dagenham home - Gary Jones produced the special something that was needed for Dale to win the game. Space opened up for the captain in front of the Dagenham box, inviting Jones to find the bottom corner with a rasping low drive.

Chris O'Grady - Shrewsbury home - Chris Dagnall cut down the left and cut the ball back for O'Grady, who took a touch before placing a volley perfectly in the far corner.

Chris O'Grady - Rotherham home - O'Grady beat the offside trap, turned back inside his marker, and rolled a low right foot shot beyond Warrington, capping a fine all round performance with a wonderful goal.

Voting closes on Sunday 25 April and please be aware that you can only vote once for your chosen player and goal.
