Pre-Season Guide To...Bury

2004/2005 Preview - Bury

LAST SEASON

It was 12th last time around for Bury, three points behind the Swans. Like us it was much nearer the bottom than the top though which is a concern for anyone.

WHAT HAVE THEY BEEN UP TO THIS SUMMER?

Most recent arrival at Gigg Lane this summer has been rocket throw specialist Dave Challinor. He arrived today hot on the heels of Jon Newby who joined this week after a years spell at the McAlpine with newly promoted Huddersfield.

Also into Bury this summer is another Huddersfield player - Dwayne Mattis. Add to that several new deals signed from last season's squad and you could understand if there was a new optimism around Gigg Lane this season.

WHO ARE THEIR FAMOUS FANS?

Hardly a whos who of the celebrity world but Bury's famous fans are listed as

Danny Boyle - Film Director

Mike Reid - DJ and I'm a Celebrity.......... contestant

Mark E Smith from The Fall

5 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT BURY

  1. According to the web-site the thrice weekly market in Bury draws shoppers from far and wide. It's hard to believe that it is the town's main attraction but it's the first thing that you get told.

  2. The Bury Black Pudding - quite what is so special about it to other Black Puddings is up for debate but Bury is famous for it - apparently!

  3. Bury's most celebrated son is Sir Robert Peel, former Prime Minister and founder of the Metropolitan Police.

  4. The name of Bury comes from a Saxon word "Buri" or "Byri" which means a stronghold. The rest of it's origins are somewhat vague with plenty of 'possiblies' and 'maybes' in it's history

  5. Bury is famous for it's paper and not of the toilet variety. There we go just what you wanted to know!

ARE WE ANY GOOD AGAINST BURY?

28 wins and 14 draws in the 73 meetings between the two clubs. Strangely despite that defecit, we have more goals (111) than Bury (108) but it counts for little when we lose more than we win. Bury's recent record is good against he Swans with 11 wins in the last 13 meetings. For the list of results, click here

WHEN DO WE PLAY THEM?

27th November is the game at the Vetch with Bury being our last opponents of the season on May 7th at Gigg Lane.

IF I WANT TO FIND OUT MORE WHERE DO I GO?

Look no further than their Rivals site which is a good un. Their official site makes good reading as well.

WHAT ARE THEIR CHANCES NEXT SEASON?

Despite their new additions I think the best that they can hope for is a mid table finish. Sorry Bury fans but I call it as I feel it.
