Dutch trialist Michael Van Der Heijden eyes an extended Liberty Stadium stay

After two trial matches in midweek, the dutch midfielder has now returned home and will wait for Roberto to make his decision.

Van Der Heijden will play no part in the Swans Spanish tour which could suggest that he will not be offered terms although it is just as likely that Roberto wants time to think over his decision on the player who made a scoring debut against Neath on Wednesday night.

“I would like to play here,” Van Der Heijden told the Western Mail. “It’s a dream for me to play in the English league and I want to do it with Swansea.

“I think I’ve been playing well and I’m in good shape. I scored a goal against Neath as well and I hope I can get a contract here.

“Ferrie is a good friend of mine and he told me Swansea was a good club. He told me I had to come for a trial here.

“I have seen that it is a good club. The players are all very good, very friendly and they have a great coach as well.”

Roberto is clearly impressed with the Dutchman although he knows that there is much competition in the centre of midfield in the Swans Championship squad and that will have an impact on his decision “I want to assess the whole squad before we make a decision. But Michael has come in, he’s shown a great attitude and he needs to keep working hard." he told the same newspaper

“You can see Michael is a proper footballer. He has had a week with us and has been working really hard.

“I will carry on assessing Michael. We’re going to keep him on until the end of the week and then we’ll see what’s his situation.”
