Saints legend Matthew Le Tissier will be hunting goals again this season after launching a new on-line football game called Goalden Goals.

Le Tissier, who netted 161 times in 443 appearances for Southampton, has teamed up with Bournemouth-based sports writer Graham Nickless to promote the competition.

Le Tissier said: “Everyone knows that I loved scoring goals for Southampton so I am very excited about this game.

“I also like the idea that Goalden Goals features teams from the Football League as well as the Premier League.

“There is no fantasy about this game-it’s all about nominating teams that you think will top score in their divisions each month and at the end of the season.”

Monthly points winners of the Beta test competition will each pick-up £200 during the season.

Game creator Nickless, who has been covering football matches at all levels for nearly four decades, was delighted that Le Tissier agreed to be the famous face of Goalden Goals.

He said: “I was lucky enough to see many of Matt’s special goals at The Dell when I was reporting Saints’ matches for the national newspapers.

“I cannot think of a better goal scorer to promote my game that is all about scoring goals.”

Nickless disclosed the biggest con in the history of the Premier League in November 1996 much to the embarrassment of former Saints manager Graeme Souness.

The Sunday Mirror reporter revealed that new player Ali Dia, who came on as a substitute for Le Tissier against Leeds, was a fraud who claimed to be the cousin of World Player of the Year George Weah.

Le Tissier described the performance of his replacement, who lasted just 21 minutes on the pitch before he was subbed himself, as “Bambi on ice”.

Dia was forced to leave the club in a hurry and was later discovered playing for non-League Durham.

Le Tissier added: “I have known Graham for many years and I’m delighted to be promoting Goalden Goals.”
