Saints At Swansea City Player Assessments
Monday, 22nd Sep 2014 09:03

How did each player perform at The Liberty Stadium on Saturday, once again we take our individual look at each Saints participant.

Fraser Forster
In truth didn't have a lot to do, especially in the second half, but what he did have to, he did well
7/10

Nathaniel Clyne
Didnt get the chance to attack as much as in previous games but again did his duties well without excelling himself
7/10

Jose Fonte
Was lucky not to get sent off but apart from this rush of blood to the head was efficient in ensuring that Saints kept a clean sheet
7/10

Yoshida
Got stuck in and wasn't afraid to get hurt as was shown in the two pivotal moments of the first half which lead to the bookings of Bony and the red card
7/10

Plastic Bertrand
Similar game to Clyne in that first half he had a lot to do defensively including the goal line clearance and n the second it was hard to get space to attack with the Swans getting everyone behind the ball.
7/10

James Ward Prowse
Like our other central midfielders had to dig in first half and chase shadows, but did so meaning we stayed in the game.
7/10

Jack Cork
Not his best performance but that could be said to his fellow combatants in the centre of the park, this was a game of grit for Jack rather than getting the chance to shine.
7/10

Morgan Schneiderlin
I could say the same for Morgan as i have said for JWP & Cork, in fact they had similar games, again the first half wasn't great but we showed we can win ugly.

Shane Long
Long gets criticism from some Saints fans, but he is a vital option, especially in the first five games when we have lacked options, but Long does what he does best and that was work hard and offer us an outlet.
7/10

Dusan Tadic
I said he would be key and he was, he helped Bertrand subdue the main Swansea threat ex Saint Nathan Dyer and then in the second half as we faced a wall of defenders looked the most likely to score.
7/10

Graziano Pelle
A difficult game for the Italian, often isolated up front in the first half, he had plenty of company in the second as we camped around the edge of their penalty area, but kept battling away and it was his ball slipped through to Wanyama that provided the goal.
7/10

Subs
Florin Gardos
Came on at half time and slotted it well, you almost didnt notice he was there and thats a good thing, truth is though defensively he didnt have a lot to do so not a big test but that will come.
7/10

Steven Davis
Difficult game for Davis to come on for, we needed fresh legs but we lacked flair on the bench that we needed, however Davis rarely lets anyone down and moved the ball around well
7/10

Wanyama
A short appearance that saw him the unlikely goal scoring hero, more fortuitous than tactical though in the fact that if JWP hadn't been injured then he would not have got on.
8/10(Extra point for the goal)

Ronald Koeman
Probably got it wrong in the starting line up in that he underestimated Swansea's power in the centre of midfield, he played a central three to out pass Swansea but we found ourselves struggling, perhaps playing Wanyama from the start might have been better.

However adapted well and will welcome the arrival of Mane to give him that extra option he needs.

This week he wasnt as pro active as in other weeks, but he cant be every week, sometimes a manager needs a bit of luck and he got that with JWP being forced off and having to bring on Wanyama, sometimes a lucky manager is better than a good one
7/10

The game
It was definitely a game of two halves, the first they over run us a little without working Forster and in the second we over run them without working their keeper enough, it wasn't entertaining as a spectacl, but it was tense till we scored, they say a good side wins when it doesn't play well, that was the case here, truth is we won't win every game, but this was a good test of character we came through well
7/10
