Wanyama On Verge Of Ban
Wednesday, 18th Mar 2015 09:36

Victor Wanyama is only one booking away from a two game ban, can he hold out on getting another long enough to get past the amnesty period.

After picking up 3 yellow cards in the last four games Victor Wanyama is on the verge of a two game ban if he picks up a yellow card in Saints next three games, Burnley at home, Everton away and then Hull at St Mary's are the matches he needs to come through without being booked if he wants to avoid that ban at what is a vital time for Saints.

Wanyama is in this position because so far he has been booked 9 times with 10 being the threshold, if he can come through unscathed then the bar raises to 15 games meaning that with only 6 games remaining he would be safe from the thread of suspension for the reaminder of the season.

Ironically Wanyama only got booked once in his first 13 games of the season, but since then he has been more consistent in picking up yellow cards, however like goals for a centre forward they seem to have come in bursts and prior to this latest trio in the last four games he had gone 5 games without picking up one and hopefully the next three games will be a lot less competitive in the centre of the park than Chelsea was on Sunday.

Ronald Koeman probably needs to manage Wanyama through the next three matches to ensure that he doesnt pick up unnecessary bookings when the result of a game is settled.

Using Harrison reed is a good option as his natural replacement either from the bench or if he does get suspended . . Hopefully he will get through its about time we had some luck with injuries/suspensions.

Takes you back to that woeful night in Sheffield in December, when needless bookings for both Vic and Morgan meant they both missed the next game.

This of course brought Harry Reed into the first team and we successfully despatched Everton 3-0. I would obviously prefer to have Vic in the team, as he has been nothing short of awesome this season and really improved his technical game, but should he suspended, we now have a more than adequate replacement.

No chance! He will definitely get a booking in the next 3 games.

I have always believed that these bans are well intentioned but applied in a ridiculous way.
If he doesn’t get booked against Burnley but he does against Everton, he would miss the Hull and Stoke game even though the Stoke game is part of the first amnesty. Also a player could get booked every time he plays but play less than 15 times in season an never get a ban.

They should just make the rule that you receive a sanction if you have been booked 5 times in the last 10 you have played in .

Wiltshire referee Roger East will be in charge of the Burnley game. In his 23 games so far this season four players have been sent off with another 89 receiving yellow cards. Victor will do well to not set off the spring in his arm...
