Ferrie - Monk Is A Real Leader
Saturday, 1st Aug 2015 15:01 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Ferrie Bodde may have only played 59 times for the Swans but ask anyone who saw him play and they will happily tell you that he was one of the most gifted players that we have seen in a Swans shirt.

It will always be something for me that I wish I had seen when I think of Ferrie playing for us in the Premier League but sadly that opportunity was never afforded to him after he missed out on this era having to cut short his career due to injury.

He scored 14 goals in those 59 games which I think tells you much in terms of his abilities in midfield and he is now back in his native Holland on the coaching staff at ADO Den Haag.

He now watches the Swans from afar but he is delighted for his former captain Garry Monk who is of course now the Swans manager and believes that he was the best man for the job

“I am delighted that Garry Monk is now manager of the club, they are doing really well.

“I laughed when I first heard with happiness. I was on the phone to Thomas Butler and we laughed together and said ‘he did it, he did it’

“He is the best person now for Swansea — he has the mix of every coach in Martinez, Rodgers, Laudrup and Sousa.

“He was a really good captain too. If I tell people here in Holland what used to give me goose bumps it was the huddle before the match — the words that he used showed he was a real leader.

“He used to say that we needed to win as a team, we were brothers, a family and there was a big togetherness at Swansea and still is.

“All the players like him, all the players at the club like him so he was the best person for the job.”

You can watch the first part of the Swans YouTube channel interview with Ferrie Bodde below but it’s great to hear from him again and especially the fact that he is still very much watching the Swans
