Ki - For Chelsea Read Manchester United

Ki Sung Yeung scored the Swans first goal of last season against the odds and he hopes that, together with his team mates, they can do the same again this season as they prepare for the season opener at Chelsea.

Twelve months ago, the Swans were the visitors to Old Trafford for Louis Van Gaal’s first competitive game in charge and goals from Ki and Gylfi Sigurdsson gave the Swans a win against the odds as they started a campaign that eventually would lead them to a record breaking 8th placed finish with 56 points.

It was also the springboard to a fantastic season for Ki who returned to the fold after a year on loan at Sunderland and was as good as a new signing for the Swans last season and made himself one of the first names on the team sheet in many games.

The Swans this time around have been handed an equally tough start to the campaign with a trip to the Champions on the opening day of the season and they are clearly again ranked as clear outsiders to get a result to kick start a new season.

But we have had a habit of upsetting the odds in the past four seasons in the league and will certainly go to the Bridge with the belief that we can get a result no matter how little people expect it.

“We had the perfect start last year which set us up for the rest of the campaign,” said Ki.

“It’s going to be tough, but hopefully we can do the same again.

“Our preparation has been good over the last six weeks. We’ve trained very hard and everyone is ready to go.

“Chelsea are the defending champions – and worthy champions at that.

“They were such a good, strong team last season with quality throughout the squad.
“It’s going to be a challenge, but one we are all looking forward to.

“We know we will have to be at our very best to come away with a positive result, but we have shown in the past what we can do on our day.”
