EA SPORTS Player Performance Index Top 10 Summer Signings
Friday, 18th Sep 2015 09:36

EA SPORTS Player Performance Index looks at the summer's transfer window after the first five Premier League fixtures..

This summer saw Premier League clubs spend over £870million in the transfer window, more than double the £405million spent by clubs in Serie A, the second biggest spenders in Europe this summer. The breakdown of this expenditure saw £585million spent overseas, £210million within the Premier League and £75million on Football League players.

Some particularly big transfers saw Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling head to The Etihad, with fierce rivals Manchester United and Liverpool shelling out at least £35million each on Anthony Martial and Christian Benteke, respectively.

But what we wanted to know is who are the best performing Premier League summer signings?

The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows us the top 10 performing summer signings below with their PPI ranking:

Player Team Price PPI Ranking

Dimitri Payet West Ham United £10.5m 5

Bakary Sako Crystal Palace Free 9

Raheem Sterling Manchester City £49m 13

André Ayew Swansea City Free 14

Yohan Cabaye Crystal Palace £9.7m 23

Christian Benteke Liverpool £32.5m 39

Alex McCarthy Crystal Palace £3.4m 60

Shinji Okazaki Leicester City £7.7m 69

Robert Huth Leicester City £2.9m 73

Petr Cech Arsenal Free 77

The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index tells us that Dimitri Payet has been the best performing PL summer signing so far this season, and also shows us that spending big money isn't necessarily the be all and end all, with three of the top 10 performing PL summer signings heading to their new clubs on free transfers. Half of the 10 top performing summer signings are at Leicester or Crystal Palace, helping them to secure 2nd and 6th spots in the Premier League, respectively.
