Stekelenburg Should Be Fit For Trip To Anfield
Friday, 23rd Oct 2015 15:57

Maarten Stekelenburg should be fit to return to the Saints goal for the trip to Liverpool on Sunday, which is good news for Saints fans.

Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Maarten Stekelenburg has returned to full training and should be fit to return to the team to play Liverpool up on Merseyside on Sunday.

“He’s looking good,” Koeman told youtube.com/southamptonfc. “He did Thursday, on a day off, a session with Dave Watson.

“He was training normally on Friday and he’s fit for the weekend.”

Stekelenburg missed the game against Leicester City last Saturday with a back problem and that exposed Saints lack of quality cover for the goalkeepers position, although with Fraser Forster making great progress on his return from his knee injury it could be that in the New year Saints will have great competition for the number 1 spot with Stekelenburg sure to want to hand on to the jersey.

That's the best news regarding injuries and that's no disrespect to the other keepers, but until Fraser is back that's a poorly covered position with Stek out.

As long as he can walk from the tunnel, stick him between the posts.
