LFW Weekend Championship Preview

After an exciting Carling Cup week, LFW takes a look ahead to this weekends fixtures in the Coca Cola Championship.

Welcome back to LFW Championship Preview and after the midweek Carling Cup exploits, we return to League action. Three Championship sides have made the next round, sadly, QPR are not one of them, but our congratulations go to Burnley, Derby and Watford on making the Quarter Finals.

The game of the weekend comes on Sunday afternoon and a Sky televised, West Lancashire derby, or as some might call, the M55 derby between Blackpool and Preston at Bloomfield Road. Things couldn't be closer as the two sides meet as just one goal seperates them in mid table. Both on 21 points, but Preston are ahead with this one goal difference. Not much to choose on current form either for this one, with mixed results for both in recent weeks.

The other Sky game is the evening kick off on Saturday and not for the first time this season, is a somewhat strange choice as bottom vlub Doncaster take on Ipswich at the Keepmoat Stadium. Doncaster are rooted to the bottom of the table and are without a win in 12 games now. Ispwich however, are on a great little run and are unbeaten in 6, moving them to 8th in the Championship.

Elsewhere and runaway leaders, Wolves, travel to St Marys to take on Southampton who are still struggling to put any sort of form together at all. The followed an excellent 3-2 win away at Preston, with a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Bristol City and will no doubt dreading the visit of the league leaders on Saturday, who will be looking for their 5th win on the spin since their defeat at Norwich.

Second placed Birmingham take on Charlton at St Andrews as things get no easier for under pressure boss, Alan Pardew. But the game of the day comes from Bramall Lane as 4th placed Sheffield United take on 3rd placed Reading. Whether Blades Captain Chris Morgan will play, remains to be seen as the FA may still take action against the player, following his challenge on Barnsley's Iain Hume last Saturday, that left the striker with internal bleeding and a fractured skull.
