The Southampton branch of the Manchester United Supporters club has been going for over 40 years, however this weekend its numbers have swelled from around 50 to a thousand times that number.

Saints fans have generally not been well disposed to Manchester United and their supporters , especially the ones that live nearer to St Mary's than Old Trafford, but that has all changed this week as Saints supporters have gritted their teeth and braced themselves to cheer on United in today's FA Cup Final.

If the spawn of the devil, I'm sorry I mean't to say that great footballing side Manchester United ! should beat Crystal Palace today at Wembley then that will mean that Saints will go into the Europa League at the group stages, however should that team of ragged arsed budgies take the trophy then it is they who will go into the group stages and we will go into the 3rd qualifying round, the same stage as last year.

So for one day only the South Coast Manchester United Supporters Club has seen its membership soar especially in the Southampton & Brighton areas, although strangely it has seen a mass resignation of its members in Portsmouth.

So hopefully at around 7pm tonight Manchester United will have won the cup and be parading it around Wembley, something they failed to do 40 years ago, whilst we in Southampton will be getting out our pens and papers and writing our resignation letters from a club that we have only been members of for a day and hopefully will have no need to join again.

Good luck Manchester United and good luck Louis Van Gaal may you stay in your job another season ( I do mean that bit)
