Saints Linked With Greek Defender. Monday, 3rd Jul 2017 16:20 by Arron Sanders Arron Sanders looks at the the latest player to be linked with a move to Southampton Football Club. Southampton are reportedly expressing interest in signing Olympiacos' 19-year-old defender Panagiotis Retsos. The Greek Center-back has been at the heart of the Greek side for the last couple of seasons and is an very promising talent. They will face stiff competition for the player from a host of clubs, however the 20m Euro price-tag muted appears to be putting sides of making an approach, Saints are reported to be keen to negoiate, and Olympiacos have stated that the most recent bid has come from a Premier League side, could this be Saints? It would certainly fit the clubs transfer policy to move for the young defender. With Olympiacos playing in the Champions League, there is potential that his value skyrockets from the current evaluation. Along with experience of playing European football he would bring to the side, a player of this ilk playing and learning along side Virgil Van Dijk could be a good combination. However the premier league is tough stage to learn on, and it will be a tough fight with the likes of Stephens and Yoshida as well as new signing Jan Bednarek to partner the Dutchman at the heart of the defence this season. Is the prospect of signing Panagiotis Retsos something that appeals to you Saints fans? or would you prefer the club give the likes of Stephens and Maya Yoshida a chance this year?
