Personally the last things I want to see in this transfer window are, firstly, zero incoming players, secondly, signing any player who player who is no better than those already in the squad and, thirdly, any signings of obscure nonentities who might or might not be any good in three years time. I'm encouraged by links to the signing of quality players like Walcott and dismayed by the prospect of signing knackered Celtic players just cos they are cheap. Why quality signings don't appear to have been lined up already is absolutely ridiculous in the current situation. The squad and supporters need a boost somewhat bigger than the prospect of a newly painted stadium.

Armstrong is a cracking player, his form this season stems from the fact he fancied moving to England in the summer but Celtic wanted to keep him, especially with the Champions League qualifiers. He eventually signed a 1 year extension, but I think he will move at some point. He’s got a bit of everything, 2 footed, quick, technical. Quite similar to a Steven Davis - he can play anywhere in midfield. I heard that Eric Black was very impressed when he took the Scotland team in November, and Ross Wilson will know about him. He’s been very highly regarded for a long time, but was played wide for a while because he’s so adaptable/natural.
I just wish he’d sign a 5 year contract with us(Celtic) but because he won’t we need to get a fee for him.
I’m totally amazed you haven’t been in for Dembélé, because if there was a striker equivalent of Van Dijk it would be him.
He can be as good as he wants - like Virgil, his only weakness is his concentration/motivation, he has absolutely everything.
If you look at his goals in his 18 months with us - left foot, right foot, volleys, back heels, headers, he’s also naturally strong and very quick.
He got 5 for us in the Champions league last year, including 2 against Man City, which was the best record for a 20 year old in the history of the tournament.
He also qualifies as a home grown player.
If he hadn’t had a hamstring problem at the start of this season, which he’s just recovering from he’d be away in this window for £50 million.
The way things change, the perception, some people are thinking last season was a one off(a bit like Armstrong) but believe me he’ll keep getting better.
He’s also got that arrogance, and has told Celtic TV that he’ll be the best Striker in the world.
He’s scored at every level for France and was included in the initial squad for the first team 6 weeks ago, but missed the cut.
Anyway guys I just wanted to give my thoughts - I always look out for your results since big Wanyama went down there.
I just don’t want Moussa to end up at a Brighton because of clubs being apprehensive.
We’re in the situation with the lack of TV money that we can’t knock back huge fees, as long as they’re fair of course, so I’m a little worried about this window.

JWP IS an attacking MF option - just not a very good one. Davis is quite near the top of our goal-scoring table which is of course faint praise.

I think the priority is to get a central midfielder and not to get another striker and central defender. If you get the midfield right then that has a positive impact on every area of the pitch. Our inability to close out games stems from a lack of pressure on the ball from the midfield. Equally our inability to score goals stems from a lack of creative nous in the middle of the park. So let's sign a top drawer midfielder and if Stuart Armstrong has been identified as that man then let's go get him.

it's easy for fans to criticise an "unknown" player who THEY have not heard of before, but a contribution from someone like... Delphic 79.. shows that people closer to the action can provide more info. than we can.

Remember that players like Boruc, Wanyama, Steven Davis ..and VvD all played for Scottish clubs - and DAJFU but who the majority of Prem. clubs ignored because they thought them sub-standard for the English game. I haven't forgotten Fraser Forster, who despite the recent dip in confidence was not a bad buy, and (at present ) is no worse than some of his competitors vying for the England goalie shirt.

New signings might be "unknown " but that doesn't mean they aren't good enough- Give new people time to settle. I can't forget (and neither can) the critic... who once likened the newly signed Sadio Mane...to Ali Dia ..after only a few games with Saints. (!)

The articles I've seen have tried to 'sell' him as a creative midfielder. If true that's OK by me. That's the big need. Boufal is improving but still for the future. Tadic has no 'long' game as far as I'm concerned and they are both luxury players unsuited to the impending battles.
