Norwich Accept Saints Bid
Saturday, 16th Jun 2018 23:18

Norwich City are being reported this evening as having accepted a bid for James Maddison, could this be the first signing of the summer.

National media reports are saying that Saints and Norwich City have agreed a fee for their attacking midfielder, sources close to the Carrow Road club say Southampton boss Mark Hughes has been given permission to talk to the youngster after meeting the Championship club’s valuation for their star player tonight. with £20 million touted to be about to change hands.

Maddison played 41 Championship games for the Canaries last season scoring 14 times, but what was really impressive was the number of chances he created, 54 in total more than any other player in the Premier League, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Serie A and Ligue 1.

Saints are said to have been nailing down a deal with Norwich and now that first hurdle has been completed can now speak to the player, however it is likely that Saints have been speaking to the players agent for a while and are far down that track already.

Certainly the media report the deal is close and they usually have an inside track

Will be a good signing for us, if we can get him over the line.
Missus(canary fan) is gutted, he made their attack tick last season.

Would be a great signing. He's the attacking midfielder many had believed Ward-Prowse was going to become; but never has.

Excellent news if true.

the sell on potential will be massive, any chance of a good centre back

Just a minute . Didn’t Norwich sell us Redmond?

Norwich also sold us Ron Davies for £55,000, dave. One of our best buys ever. Maddison is Norwich's best player, as was Ron Davies; Redmond wasn't.

Sounds like a very interesting signing. What position(s) does he excel in?

I presume Harrison Reed is likely to sign for Norwich if this rumour is true. If so good luck to him, one of those talented players who just doesn't quite have enough to make it at the top level. Maddison on the other hand is ready to step up to the plate. Could be a very good signing.

Koeman said that Reed was too slow in his decision making and distribution. Obviously not very bright.

OK, great but where does he fit with Lemina and Hojberg becoming well established? I'm sure he will want to be an automatic starter and not just a bench man making up the numbers. Swap for JWP doesn't solve that problem either as JWP rarely starts now

This would be a great buy but i read that Leicester have come in hard for him too due to them about to lose their star player, so who would he choose - Leicester who finished 9th, or Saints....I do hope we have a hold over Norwich with Reed which may sway the decision.....

SaintBrock: I think Maddison (assuming that we get him!) is more a replacement for Steven Davis and Tadic. I suspect Boufal might also be factored in but he's going to leave regardless.

He looks like a decent player. My only issue is he seems a little short at 5"9 and will need time adapting to the EPL. For a club record fee coupled with the wages many would expect him to hit the ground running.

Let's hope he's not our only marquee signing!
