Good Transfer Window For Saints Thursday, 9th Aug 2018 21:03 After the signing of Danny Ings on a season long loan with an option to buy at the end of the season it can be considered a good window for Saints. With the announcement that Saints had completed the loan deal of Danny Ings the summer transfer window slammed shut and Saints fans can consider it a good summer with 4 key incoming signings and only 1 permanent transfer out alongside 2 players going out on loan of significance. A year ago Saints were gambling with the appointment of Mauricio Pellegrino, and gambling in trying to hold on to Virgil Van Dijk, they were also short up front and unbeknown at the time were going to suffer a goalkeeping problem but now it seems that these key areas have been addressed. We now have Mark Hughes a manager with a good track record in the Premier League and of course the distinction of keeping us up last year. He has a squad that although has really only lost one player who made a decent contribution to the team and has strengthened the squad with three outfield players and a goalkeeper. Whether you are a total cynic when it comes to Saints, it is good business and with the signing of Jannik Vestergaard we finally again have two central defenders who have the International pedigree and options at the back which a year ago were only the sulking Van Dijk plus Yoshida & Stephens, good club men but ultimately not the standard we need to get us into the top 10. Mohamed Elyounoussi looks a good replacement for Dusan Tadic and Stuart Armstrong a natural replacement for Steven Davis. Finally Danny Ings, of course the jury will be out after his injury problems, but he will add extra firepower up front that we didn't ave last season. But just as crucial is that Saints showed that they will not roll over and sell a player unless they have to, Fulham purportably upped their offer for Matt Targett to £15 million but Saints still said no, Watford offered £10 million plus for James Ward Prowse but were turned down, those who say that we just look to get rid of players to line the pockets of Gao Gisheng were proved wrong, we could easily have pocketed £25 million, but chose instead to keep a stronger squad with them than without them. We have also held off rumoured interest for Mario Lemina, Manolo Gabbiadini and Cedric Soares. If we can get the likes of Nathan Redmond, Mario Lemina and Manolo Gabbiadini showing the form that they are capable of, we could surprise a few people next season including a few of our own fans. So all in all a good summer for Saints and perhaps one of intention, some Saints fans need to give the club a chance now, all summer they have been saying that we are only interested in profit and selling players, this summer proves that we are not, there is still a bit of a way to go, but we can go foward with more confidence and a squad capable of a top 10 finish in that it is also better than the one that finished the 2nd half of 2016/17 season when we finished 8th. So Saints supporters good business by the club this summer, lets reserve judgement till Xmas and give the club a chance , give the players a chance and get behind them for the coming season, lets have pride in our club!
