Train Chaos Again For The Visit Of Cardiff
Tuesday, 5th Feb 2019 12:37

Every time Saints play at home Southampton Central Station seems to be shut for engineering works, find out the latest news for the visit of Cardiff City on Saturday.

Football supporters of both Saints and Cardiff will find Southampton Central station closed on Saturday with replacement bus services in operation in all directions.

Train services will run to a revised timetable between London Waterloo and Southampton Airport Parkway.

A bus service will also run non-stop between Southampton Central and Bournemouth.

Bus services for local journeys will run between Southampton Airport Parkway and Brockenhurst.

Train services will run between Salisbury and Eastleigh via Romsey and Chandlers Ford.

Buses will run between Southampton Central and Romsey for Millbrook and Redbridge, also between Eastleigh and Southampton Central for Swaythling and St Denys.

South Western Railway stopping services will run between Portsmouth and St Denys. Passengers for Southampton Central change at Woolston for bus connection.

Buses will run between Woolston and Southampton Central.

Great Western Railway trains will call at Eastleigh instead of Southampton Central.

In simple terms those travelling on the line from London will have to get off at Southampton Airport and get a replacement bus to Southampton Central.

For those Saints fans coming from Salisbury or indeed Cardiff fans who use the route down through Salisbury will find themselves either having to change at Romsey and get a replacement bus service, possibly the quickest route from that direction or going to Eastleigh and getting a replacement bus from there.

For Cardiff fans who travel via Reading by train, they will have to change at Eastleigh and get a replacement bus to Southampton from there.

To make matters worse fro those travelling from the West, there are still major road works at Millbrook Roundabout which will cause delays on the M271 and A35 inbound into Southampton, although things are usually a little better going out of the City.

We've given up on using trains at weekends. Trying to get up to the Smoke and back for example is not really feasible these days due to the many cancellations and bus substitutions.

Even if you venture out by car, invariably all the M-ways are closed after 10.00pm. On one recent trip to the West End our journey home was thwarted by the M4 being closed, the M3 Jn off the M25 being closed, the M27 Jn off the M3 being closed. Having left London shortly after 10.00pm we arrived home just before 03.00am!

I wouldn't even try to get to a football match by train these days.
