Ralph Encourages Hojbjerg To Sign New Deal
Friday, 13th Sep 2019 09:35

Ralph Hasenhuttl has spoken about Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and his hope that hs Captain will extend his current deal at St Mary's.

Pierre Emile Hojbjerg has come on in leaps and bounds in the past two years, after an average first season at the club he found himself unable to even get on the bench in the first months of Mauricio Pellegrino's tenure as manager a couple of years ago,in would have been easy back then to seek a move away, but his agent advised him to stay and knuckle down and force his way back into the side, he did that and turned himself into one of the teams best players.

You can therefore understand why he more than anyone knows how football can be a fickle mistress and that not rushing into quick decisions, but holding back and assessing the situation is a good option.

That worked out for him a couple of years back and he is employing that tactic now after entering the final two years of his contract.

At the recent fans forum he intimated that although he was fully committed to the Saints cause he didn't want to focus on signing a new deal straight away.

Nathan Redmond has recently signed a new 4 year deal and is seems Saints are een to tie up Hojbjerg as well.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has spoken ahead of the Sheffield United game on his hope that the midfielder will sign on the dotted line.

Hasenhuttl said:

“We are always in contact with his agent and Pierre knows about his important role for this club.

“He is the captain of the team and is always the player I have many conversations with. His opinion is important to me also.

“He showed in the last month that he is a real captain and always positive and trying to go forward. This is what we need."

"Like Nathan, it is a good signal if Pierre decides to stay with us longer.

“We would be happy that is for sure and he is a very important player for our team."

Saints fans certainly hope that Pierre himself will follow in his team mates footsteps and sign on the dotted line soon, although there s no immediate need to do so it would be good to see a player commit himself so we can continue with the rebuild of the squad over the coming year.

I think that most Saints fans would be disappointed to see Hobjberg chase the dollar. He stood out to many of us as the obvious captain. For one thing his English is pretty good and he was talking to other players all through the game prior to being captain, something Ryan didn't appear to do. Another side to his personality is that he is determined in his disposition. I recall him saying last season words to the effect that he would not allow Saints to be relegated, not on his watch. We need men like Hobjberg around St Marys.
