Celtic Set The Bar With Asking Price for Olivier Ntcham
Wednesday, 27th May 2020 12:51

Celtic have reportedly set their asking price for Olivier Ntcham and in doing so hope to use this as leverage in their pursuit of both Fraser Forster and Mo Elyounoussi.

Despite the fact that Ntcham is not always a started in the Celtic line up and given the fact that in most games they don't need a defensive midfielder to any great degree, the fact that they have set his valuation at £12.5 million is a little surprising in that it is almost three times the amount they paid for him back in 2017.

But the reality is that this is a bargaining tool, Celtic are known to want to bring Fraser Forster back to the club on a permanent basis as well as Mo Elyounoussi, the problem being that Saints would be looking to recoup at least £20 million for the pair of them and that is money that the Glasgow club have not go especially in this current climate.

So they have set a high price for the midfielder in the hope that the more they can get for him, the better chance they have of landing the Saints pair currently on loan at the club.

From a Saints perspective the fee quotes is perhaps £4 million over the true value of the player, but it is a starting point and both clubs know that transfer fees are dropping at the moment.

I feel that if Saints got Ntcham and perhaps £12 million for Forster and Elyounoussi that they would be ready to talk, but that would be their starting point and given the wages that both are on then perhaps the player plus £10 million would be more realistic in the current climate.

One issue though would be wages, both Saints players are on big money, far more than Celtic would be able to pay, so a deal needs to be done, the only thing for sure is that there will be a lot of sitting round the negotiating table if all three are to move, both from the perspective of the two clubs agreeing terms but also the player and their agents.

Ntcham + £10 mill for Forster & Moi would be a fantastic deal for Saints.

I agree with NewburySaint but, if Celtic want to negotiate, take any sell on clause for Ntcham out of the equation. If Ntcham has similar ambitions to VVD I don't see why Celtic should gain from his development without making any financial contribution.
