Southampton Line Up V Shrewsbury Town
Tuesday, 19th Jan 2021 19:25

Find out what sort of team Ralph Hasenhuttl has selected to take on Shrewsbury Town in the 3rd round of the FA Cup at St Mary'e here.

Saints have put out a mixed team to take on the Shrews:

Starting XI: Forster, Valery, Bednarek, Stephens, Vokins, Ward-Prowse, Diallo, Watts, Chauke, Nlundulu, Long.

Subs: Lewis, Tchaptchet, Walker-Peters, Bertrand, Finnigan, Jannkewitz, Armstrong, Ferry, Adams.

A team with a strong spine but also some youngsters, notably debutant's Caleb Watts and Kegaogelo Chauke, both unfamiliar names to Saints fans but who will be hoping tonight will be the first step to long career's at St Mary's.

Strangely though a strong bench that has the likes of KWP, Ryan Bertrand and Stuart Armstrong as well as the get out of jail free card in Che Adams, has no room for Theo Walcott, whether that is just to give him a rest or because of injury is unclear.

..the traditional "..right balance of youth and experience. "
Forster kept a clean sheet against Liverpool, so we keep Jack and Jan in the centre, with Valery and Vokins already having had game time.
Diallo and Prowsie to help Watts and Chauke control the midfield.
Shane Long as "the senior professional " looking to help N'Lundulu gets his first goal.

The regulars on the bench need a rest with the fixture list piling up and we might even see Ferry and Jankewitz getting their well-earned debuts.
Now all we have to do is get a win.

It's great to see Kegs Chauke in the first team. He is a really exciting player.
