Scott is one of a rare breed of footballer that we have had at the club over years - a Rochdale lad who has come through the ranks to play for his hometown club and establish himself fully as a member of the first team squad.

Scott's strength came in playing that awkward role in midfield. He was very good at breaking down opposition moves, and more often than not, he had this great knack of playing the simple ball which would get us out of trouble. He was quite happy to put his body on the line, picking up the odd injury here and there, notably a dislocated shoulder, but despite that he picked up very few bookings - just four in eighty odd appearances.

Scoring goals was never his strong point, with just two to his name, but he'll rightly argue about quality over quantity with his sole effort from the 2005-6 season (a thirty yard volley against Torquay) picking up Goal of the Season

He made his first team debut in the away thrashing of Wrexham in August 2002 appearing as a very late substitute, but he had to wait until December before he was given his full debut away at Bournemouth playing on the right hand side of midfield. This was followed up by three successive starts for the first team, including the Third Round FA Cup win away at Preston North End.

Appearances in 2003-4 were fairly limited, with manager Alan Buckley seeing Warner as a right back and had him played regularly in this position for the reserves. However, he was restored to a midfielder when manager Steve Parkin came back to the club, and in this role, he got his only other goal for the club when he scored away at Scunthorpe. This would prove to be a crucial goal in our relegation battle.

The following two seasons had Scott as a vital member of the squad. I don't think you'd ever have him down as a first team regular but he had a healthy number of appearances to his name, and he never let anyone down when called upon.

He can count himself unlucky to be released in the Summer of 2006, where had circumstances regarding other contracted players been different, then a new deal may have been on the table.

Since leaving Dale, he has joined Radcliffe Borough.
