Michael Obafemi Could Depart Southampton In Swap Deal !
Sunday, 11th Jul 2021 10:46

Two recent Saints transfer stories could be about to combine into one story with Michael Obafemi departing for Championship side Blackburn Rovers and Adam Armstrong coming to St Mary's in the opposite direction.

Saints have been linked with signing Blackburn's centre forward Adam Armstrong over recent weeks and at the same time Michael Obafemi's name has been linked with a move to several clubs, Swansea City being one of them.

But this latest rumour could have some legs in that the Lancashire club have accepted that Armstrong will move on after his great season in the Championship and with a year left on his contract Rovers have to cash in now.

They are also interested in signing Michael Obafemi as a replacement, the Saints striker has plenty of potential but has not kicked on from his initial promise of 2 1/2 years ago due to several reasons both on and off the pitch.

Blackburn are said to want £25 million for the striker, but that is perhaps pie in the sky, Transfermarkt have his value down as £16 million and that is perhaps a more realistic valuation in this depressed market.

Obafemi is valued at far less and transfermarkt have his value as around £3 million and you have to say although that is a little bit low and Saints would be looking for at least the £5.85 million they received from Blackburn 2 years ago for Sam Gallagher, a fee that has ironically halved in that time .

But this should at least put Saints in the driving seat and a part swap deal would suit both clubs.

But the valuations for both players have to be right, Saints are already said to have made an offer of around £9 million for the player, but that is way off Blackburn's valuation. however if we upped the offer by a million or two and threw in Obafemi then that may be a tempting offer.

In truth Blackburn are not going to get anywhere near the £25 million they want and are probably looking for the £16 million already mentioned, this swap deal could be the best offer they will get.
